    Hi,

    Yoast Seo adds

    <link rel="canonical" href="https://www.domain.com/" />
     <link rel="next" href="https://www.domain.com/page/2" />

    to the head of my homepage. I’m happy with the canonical url but not with the rel=”next”. I don’t have a /page/2 on my site and Google might want to index it because it is mentioned by Yoast. In my eyes referring to a non-existing page is a bug.
    I’m using home.php for the homepage.

    How to remove this from my homepage?

    Hello,

    We understand that you have the rel="next" tag on your homepage. By default, the Yoast SEO plugin adds the rel="prev" & rel="next" tags to help deal with paginated content, as well as the canonical URL.

    Can you confirm the settings you have for your homepage display in WordPress > Settings > Reading? And also the URL of your website.

    Hi,

    Thank you for looking into it. The Settings –> Reading options are still on default. So:
    Your latest posts
    10
    10
    Full text
    Discourage not checked

    I’m using home.php for the homepage. I haven’t tried to create an empty page that I could use as the homepage and then use the home.php file to get the homepage layout. Would that work or is there a better option?

    Hi,

    We tried to view the link you provided but it doesn’t seem to lead us to an actual website, but rather a URL shortener.

    We can’t confirm if that would be the best option for you, but if you would like to remove the rel=”prev” & rel=”next” tags, you can check out the filters documented in this article – https://yoast.com/help/is-the-plugin-compatible-with-paginated-content/

    However, we would advise against doing that, because since you’ve set your homepage to the latest posts, then it would make sense to use those tags, since it handles paginated content correctly.

    Yes, I see. I think something went wrong adding the link. Here it is again.

    I prefer not to remove the rel=”next” tags on pages like the archieve pages because I need them there. It’s really only for the homepage because I don’t have a domain.com/page/2 page on the site.

    Hi @wendihihihi

    On a default WP theme such as TwentyTwenty, if you’ve set your homepage to ‘your latest posts’, we would expect the rel="next" tag would output if there is indeed a next page in the paginated archives for the homepage.

    On a default WP theme, if you’ve set your homepage to a ‘static page’, then we would expect that it wouldn’t output the rel="next" tag. Can you set your homepage to a static page and see if this solves the issue?

    Makes sense. I’ll do it this weekend and let you know. Thanks.

    I created a new template with the coding I had in home.php. Then I created a new (empty) page and chose this template and saved the page. The rel="next" tag didn’t show up anymore.

    Thank you for the suggestion.
