    Hi,

When editting a directory listing Yoast SEO analysis indicates:

“Image alt attributes: No images appear on this page. Add some!”

I have images loaded in the Slider window but assume Yoast isn’t aware of them and similary isn’t aware of Outbound links when directory listing Website field is set.

    Is this correct?

When doing a view source for a directory listing on live website I’ve noticed for images in the slider the “image alt” tag is only set for the first image and it’s set to the directory listing name. The other images have no alt tags set.

In the Worpress Media library I have “Alt Text” set for all my images; can Directorist use these to set the alt tags for all slider images? If not are there plans to add support for this?

    Thanks

  • Hello Halfmack,

Thank you for reaching us out.

We’ve tested the SEO issue with Yoast but not having any error message from our side. The slider images has the alt tag to each preview images ( Screenshot ).

If you are using the background blur effect in the slider, then you will see two images for each preview image. One is the main image and another one is blurred behind the main image. We didn’t add the alt tag to the blurred one since it’s not the main image. But, we will add the alt tag for this one too in the upcoming update.

The images in the bottom thumbnail area has no alt tag, We’ll fix that in the upcoming update.

We’re using the post title for the alt tag, we will change it to the image’s alt tag in the upcoming update.

I have images loaded in the Slider window but assume Yoast isn’t aware of them …

Yoast is aware of those images who has properly formatted image tag. src and alt attributes are the major thing for a proper SEO friendly image tag. Since our slider images has the src and alt set properly, Yoast must aware of them.

… and similary isn’t aware of Outbound links when directory listing Website field is set.

By default, Yoast checks every link on page and count as outbound link except the nofollow link. The link on the Website field has no nofollow attribute specified on it, so Yoast should aware of it too.

Note: A nofollow link provides a way for webmasters to tell search engines “Don’t follow links on this page” or “Don’t follow this specific link.”

Please feel free to contact us if you need any further information.

    Regards.

    Thanks for the followup.

I can confirm with the recent version of Directorist 6.4.1 I’m now seeing “data-alt” tags set to the post title for each image in the slider. From memory I was only seeing it for the first image in the previous version of Directorist. Look forward to an upcoming version which uses the image’s own alt tag.

With regard to Yoast SEO analysis I’m referring when one is editting a directory listing in the Directorist WordPress Admin dashboard (eg “Directory listings” -> “All listings”). When editting a particular directory listing and one opens the Yoast “SEO analysis” window it reports:

Outbound links: No outbound links appear in this page. Add some!

    – even though I have a link defined in the Directorist Website field.
    – if I define a link in the Directorist Description window then Yoast recognises it

Get similar issue with images, the ones in the slider aren’t recognised by Yoast, in particular it reports:

Image alt attributes: No images appear on this page. Add some!

On the live website it shouldn’t matter since the images and links do exist, just misleading analysis from Yoast when one is editting a directory listing.

    Thanks again.

    Hello @halfmack,

First of all, I apologize for the late response. Due to our annual vacation, I couldn’t respond to you in time.

… Look forward to an upcoming version which uses the image’s own alt tag.

We’ve already added it to our task list, hope you will see it in the upcoming updates.

Outbound links: No outbound links appear in this page. Add some!

Image alt attributes: No images appear on this page. Add some!

Yoast doesn’t recognize custom post meta information by default. Since the website field, listings slider images, and other listing information are in the custom meta box, so Yoast is not analyzing that information to their SEO report.

Though it won’t affect the actual SEO of any search engine, we will consider adding this compatibility support in the upcoming updates.

Please feel free to contact us if you need any further information.

    Regards.
