Hello. I am using current wordpress, PHP and current 7 theme which I have used many times with yoast but for some reason I cannot use the plugin. It just brakes the site and says 500 internal error in browser but on the page is filled with nonsense characters. Any ideas? Dreamhost said to contact yoast. Thanks.

  • If you are running PHP 8.1, downgrade to PHP 8.0 or disable the plugin and wait for version 17.9

    Hi @kennydowns

We’re sorry to hear that you’re encountering this issue with the Yoast SEO Plugin.

Could you check if you are meeting the necessary plugin requirements, have the latest version of WordPress 5.8.3, Yoast SEO 17.8, and the latest version of your other plugins and themes?

Are you also using PHP 8.1? If so, we would recommend downgrading to PHP 8.0 as there are known compatibility issues for now that would cause errors.

If you could also contact your web host and provide us with any specific error messages in your server log (at around the time the 500 errors were occurring), this would be helpful so we can identify if there is an issue with the plugin or if there is a plugin or theme conflict, or something else.
