I’m having the following problems with multiple websites that use the Avada theme and Yoast plugin.

When the free Yoast plugin is enabled, the Avada Default Editor encounters a delay of up to 10 seconds. For example, I click edit on an Avada text element > the editor opens > then there is a long delay before I can type or make any edits. This happens for all Avada elements, regardless of whether they are new or existing.

The other problem involves the Yoast SEO fields in the editor. All fields are extremely slow to load and there is a delay when typing.

I’ve disabled all plugins except Avada Builder and Avada Core and the problem goes away. The problems return when I enable the Yoast plugin.

I have not encountered any problems with Yoast on websites that do not use the Avada theme.

Do you have any suggestions to fix this issue?

    Hi @candyappledesign

We’re sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues with the Yoast SEO plugin alongside Avada.

We do see that your website is on the latest version of Yoast SEO v18.3. Could you check if you are on the latest version of WordPress 5.9.1, the latest version of the rest of your plugins and themes, and are meeting the necessary plugin requirements?

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict, is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty.

Please test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

Are you still able to reproduce this issue from a default setup with just a default WP theme and just Avada Builder/Core and Yoast SEO as the only plugins enabled?

    Hi Michael,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I’m having this problem on every website I manage that uses the Avada theme and Yoast SEO plugin. This particular website has the fewest number of plugins, which makes it the easiest to test.

I have not experienced any conflicts on the websites I manage that don’t use the Avada theme. The conflict is between the Avada theme and the Yoast plugin.

The WordPress version is 5.9.2. PHP version 8.0.16.

Below are the plugins and versions used on this website:
    1- Avada Builder v. 3.6.1
    2- Avada Core v. 5.6.1
    3 The Events Calendar v. 5.14.0.4
    4- UpdraftPlus v. 2.22.10.25
    5- Wordfence Security v. 7.5.8
    6- Yoast SEO v. 18.3

    I appreciate your help!

I have a very similar problem and I use Avada too. There is a delay of several seconds when I try to fill in the fields in the “Google preview” section.

    Hi @candyappledesign & @mashki

Are you able to do a conflict check with only the Avada Theme and Avada Builder and Core plugins and Yoast SEO 18.3 and see if you are still able to replicate this issue? Testing from a default setup and ONLY the necessary plugins will help us narrow down if it is indeed an issue between both of theme.

If you were to edit a post or page with the conflict check setup, could you open your browser’s console and see if there are any JavaScript errors in red and could you attach them here (using snipboard.io or a similar site to share a link)?

    Hi Michael,

I also have a support ticket open with Avada and this morning I set up a staging site, https://avadatest.candyappledev.com/, with a fresh WordPress install with nothing except the Avada theme and the Yoast SEO plugin. This new site experienced the same issues.

Avada now has WordPress and FTP access to the new staging site so they can troubleshoot. I’ll let you know what they find.

I’m going to be out of the office this afternoon through the weekend and may not be able to update you until Monday.

    Thank you for your help,
    Elizabeth

    Hi,

    Thanks for providing this information.

If you could check for any JavaScript errors in the browser’s console and/or any slow queries appearing using the Query Monitor plugin, this would be helpful so we could identify any issues between the Yoast SEO plugin and Avada.

We also recommend logging a bug report if it is indeed confirmed that the slowness still occurs with a default setup with just those set up – https://yoast.com/help/how-to-write-a-good-bug-report/

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for the information above. I also want to thank you for a great plugin I manage 20+ websites and use your SEO plugin on all of them. The sites I manage use a variety of themes and hosting providers. The issue began with an update to Avada, but I’m not sure of the specific update.

I just recorded a short video of the issue with a fresh install of WordPress and Avada on my staging server. Here’s the link Screen recording.

I’ll check for JavaScript errors and the Query Monitor plugin next.

    Hey!

Thanks for the screencast. I can definitely see that on your site/staging site, the delay is present and really long.

However, it’s really strange that is happening, I can’t replicate the same delay on 2 sites I manage that also run Avada latest and Yoast SEO latest, together with 10+ plugins like a WooCommerce shop. The text block input has no delay whatsoever, so it’s definitely strange and a hard one to troubleshoot.

Do you happen to have a possibility to spin up another staging site on your local computer or another host and check if you can replicate the same delay? I would be very interested in what the Avada team is able to find too.

    Hi!

You’re welcome, and thank you for your help. Avada support hasn’t been able to replicate the issue either. There may be a setting on my computer that’s interfering with something in the Avada theme. I won’t have time to dig into this further due to time constraints.

Fortunately, I’m no longer using the Avada theme on new websites and am gradually moving older sites off for multiple reasons.

    Hi,

Yes, it’s definitely difficult to troubleshoot as each setup is different with different themes, plugins, and other custom configurations on the site.

You aren’t encountering the said issue for your sites that are using a different theme from Avada and have the Yoast SEO plugin installed?

    Thread Starter candyappledesign

    (@candyappledesign)

    Hi,

That’s correct – I’m not encountering this issue on any websites not using the Avada theme. I manage 13 websites that use Avada and the hosting providers include Liquid Web VPS hosting, InMotion shared hosting, and A2 shared hosting, and I encounter this issue on each of these websites. The other 15+ sites I manage that don’t use Avada have no issues whatsoever with the Yoast plugin and the Gutenberg editor.

I appreciate your time and assistance in looking into this and am going to mark this ticket as resolved since the issue only involves the Avada theme.

    Thanks again,
    Elizabeth

I’m experiencing the exact same issue. I have the latest version of Avada with free Yoast 18.6 (latest) installed. When Yoast is active editing a page pauses on any action for 10-15 seconds. The only way to get around this is to disable Yoast and the issue immediate goes away.

A client is getting this issue on the Chrome browser. Interestingly the delay is very similar at 10s between opening the text editor and being able to edit text.

Strange thing is I’m not able to replicate it either. The client has traced it down to only occurring when Yoast SEO is active with Avada (with no browser extensions), and doesn’t occur on much older versions of Avada.

I have a performance profile from the client and can see the very long task but it doesn’t show what’s causing it. Perhaps some sort of TinyMCE conflict?

Please do follow up if you come across any solutions to this.

I’ve got the same issue here. Chrome + Yoast + Avada. Safari works out fine.

Any solution to this? I think it is not solved.

    Dave –

I stopped trouble-shooting a while back because, in my case, the issue appears to be related to my desktop. I haven’t encountered the issue on my laptop.

If it helps, my desktop is a Dell tower running Windows 10. My laptop is a Surface Pro running Windows 11.
