After the last Yoast OR wordpress update (occurred both on the same day), the meta box on the right sidebar is gone. I found the meta box in the bottom, but I am not able to open or close it. I already tried the hints on the issues site, but my settings are the same as displayed. What can I do?!

I unintentionally marked the wrong arrow in the bottom, but that menu is not able to open anyway. I only see SEO, Readability etc. but I am not able to open any of those. Therefore I am not able to do any SEO.

I’m using Yoast Version 15.2.1 and WordPress 5.5.3.

    Hello @lilalippenstift,

    Thanks for reaching out.

You mentioned that the Yoast meta box is missing in the sidebar but present under the default WordPress content editor. Is that right?

Does this troubleshooting guide help to get it back?

Please also bear in mind that after a recent Gutenberg update, the meta boxes under the content can be pushed to the sidebar, sometimes accidentally. You’ll find more details here.

Yep, I’ve already tried the troubleshooting guide.

Yoast is activated in the block manager and advanced panels. It does not show up in the right sidebar though. It appears on the bottom in an altered form, but I am not able to open the menu. None of the icons work.

Now, I’ve tried to move manually Yoast into the sidebar by installing the Disable Gutenberg Plugin. My problem is still unsolved. There is no button next to “block”. Futhermore , the new Yoast element on my right sidebar can not be opened.

As soon as I have access to the Yoast features, I do not care where they are. Yet I am not able to do anything with Yoast.

A?blank meta box?issue occurs due to a JavaScript conflict. So?we’d like you to please perform a conflict check. This will help us narrow down the exact cause and determine what the next steps are while saving you time.

The fastest way to do this is to?deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme?like?Twenty Nineteen.?Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check?without affecting normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process:?How to check for plugin conflicts.

Thanks for your support. I’ve run the site health plugin in troubleshooting mode with another theme. The problem already occurs in the backend, when Yoast SEO is the only plugin running. It doesn’t matter whether I created a new post or edited one. There is neither Y-button in the sidebar nor openable Yoast Footer menu. The sidebar just looks like in my previous post.

Is there any possibility to save my Yoast and robots.txt settings and to downgrade to one or two previous versions of Yoast? I cannot downgrade wordpress since it’s managed by my hoster.

Hopelessly, I do not have a full backup which is good enough to rollback. UpdraftPlus just overwrote the full backup from last week today >_< My last database backup is from today, the other data from october 29th. I think merging these would bring the site to an inconsistent stage.

@lilalippenstift If you wish to revert to a previous version of the plugin, ?you can do so by performing the following steps:
    ?

Once you have downloaded the version of the plugin you wish to revert to, you can then install it by performing a manual install/update to the plugin. We have instructions on how to install/update the plugin manually at the following link: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/#ftp. You will need an FTP program such as FileZilla and your FTP details, which can be obtained from your host provider.

Thank you. I’ve rolled back to Yoast 15.1. Everything works as usual.
I was able to reproduce that issue by updating to 15.2.1.
Then I rolled back to 15.1 once again. Works fine again.
Therefore I conclude, that something broke with the latest Yoast update.

    Hi,

When you say you ran the troubleshooting mode of the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin with only Yoast SEO v15.2.1 enabled and ‘another theme’, did you use a default WordPress theme such as TwentyTwenty?

Are you able to reproduce the issue where the Yoast SEO meta box isn’t working with a default WP theme?

    Thread Starter lilalippenstift

    (@lilalippenstift)

Yep, I’ve used TwentyTwenty. The problem was not theme related. I’m having the issues in the backend with the Gutenberg Editor.

    Hi @lilalippenstift ,

It sounds like there’s a conflict somewhere and it’s isolated as there are no other reported issues similar to this. Can you please check if you are getting any javascript errors on your console? Also, can you confirm if everything else is updated on your site?

    Hello,

I just updated to 15.2.1 and there are plenty of javascript errors in the backend (edit posts):

They also appear in the trouleshooting mode, when yoast is the only active plugin.

The only thing which was updated nearly in the same times was wordpress itsself. Since Yoast 15.1 is working with the new wordpress version, I guess that something happened in 15.2. oder 15.2.1

    Hello,
we had the same problem and couldn’t open and edit the menu. The problem was with the firewall. We use the 7G firewall and after updating to the current version it works. Maybe this is a general problem with the firewall settings?

@a1ac Thanks, we appreciate your response and your suggestion.

@lilalippenstift Thanks for providing the JavaScript errors. Did the issues with the Yoast SEO metabox first start occurring after a recent update?

If so, can you please try performing a manual re-install of the plugin? Your issue may be occurring due to when an update was performed it couldn’t complete correctly, and possibly caused the plugin to become incomplete or damaged.

You can learn more about how to update manually using FTP here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/#manual. You will need an FTP program such as FileZilla and your FTP details, which can be obtained from your host provider.

Thanks for sharing your information. Are you speaking of the .htaccess protection? Can you please post the link where you found a version, that worked for you?

    @carl B:
Yep, my problems with the metabox occured with the latest update. It does not matter if the update came automatically from wp servers or downloaded as zip.

    @lilalippenstift
Yes, i am speaking about the .htaccess protection.

With the 7G version v1.2 was a conflict after the yoast update.

The 7G version v1.3 works perfectly.
