Yoast meta-box partially hidden
-
Hello,
Yoast meta-box doesn’t appear properly on articles, it is partially hidden, and I’m unable to configure meta-title, meta-description etc…
Then when I open the web console, it gets me the “Uncaught SyntaxError: nothing to repeat”.
All the plugins, themes and WordPress are updated to the latest version.
It seems to be a JS conflict but I don’t know how to solve it.
Thanks

Hello,
Thanks for reaching out.
We are sorry as it seems you are experiencing a blank meta box. A?blank meta box?issue occurs due to a JavaScript conflict. So?we’d like you to please perform a conflict check. This will help us narrow down the exact cause and determine what the next steps are while saving you time.
Just to be sure, we would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur. The fastest way to do this is to?deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme?like?Twenty Nineteen.?
Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check?without affecting normal visitors to your site.
As we can imagine that you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process:?How to check for plugin conflicts.
If you do not feel comfortable to do this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.
Thanks for your answer.
I did the Health Check & Troubleshooting issue.
When only Yoast SEO plugin is active I can’t open articles, I get an error message.
When Yoast SEO and Classic Editor are active I can open articles but I get the blank-meta box.Hi @nicten!
We tested this using Yoast SEO v16.0.2, WordPress v5.7 and Classic Editor v1.6 with the most recent Chrome and the metabox loaded as expected in posts. See image: https://ibb.co/fSjJsrQ.
We would like some more information.
1. We had another recent release. Can you confirm you are using the most recent Yoast SEO, v16.0.2? If you update, does the issue resolve?
2. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?
3. Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.7? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider.?Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/.
4. When you did the conflict check, did you also switch to a default theme like 2020? If you are using a child theme, did you switch to the main theme?
5. Are your browsers updated? Does it happen with Chrome or FireFox? If you switch does it still occur?
6. If you have any browser plugins, if you disable those does the issue resolve?
Let us know!

YES with 2019, I don’t use a child theme.5. Are your browsers updated? Does it happen with Chrome or FireFox? If you switch does it still occur?
YES, they are updated, it happens with Chrome and Firefox, if I switch it still occurs.6. If you have any browser plugins, if you disable those does the issue resolve?
NOThe strange thing is that the meta-box works fine on the articles published prior to August 2020, not after.
Thanks
NicolasThanks for that information! Based on the information you provided, we expect this to be a bug. We’re actively using the bug tracking on our GitHub repository so your best next step would be to create a new issue for our developers at https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/new. You will need an account to create a new issue. If this is your first bug report, please check out: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-write-a-good-bug-report/.
The same is happening for me in Firefox but not Chrome. Using same versions of Yoast and WP. All other plugins have been deactivated and theme switched to default one to test. There are also the following error messages when trying to do a page update:
Notice: Undefined index: scheme in /*/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/helpers/url-helper.php on line 146 Notice: Undefined index: scheme in /*/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/helpers/url-helper.php on line 146 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /*/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/helpers/url-helper.php:146) in /*/wp-admin/post.php on line 231 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /*/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/helpers/url-helper.php:146) in /*/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 1329 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /*/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/helpers/url-helper.php:146) in /*/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 1332
Hi @clove001
We understand you are also experiencing an issue regarding a blank Yoast SEO meta box.
Per the forum guidelines, we ask that you please create separate topics for the issues you are experiencing. That way it’s easier to track issues and provide assistance on your specific concerns on your specific site. Plus, you will get your own alerts for the issue rather than someone else’s. You may make a new topic here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wordpress-seo/#new-post
Hi,
I opened a bug report on Github, they told me that’s not a bug, but most likely a a plugin conflict. I don’t think so as when I did the troobleshooting with Theme 2019 and only Yoast activated I had the error. Is there any possibility to send more details of the error (with screenshots) I get to someone from Yoast Support?
thanks
@nicten Are you using BlueHost or Hostgator by any chance?
@nicten Thanks for your reply.
If the problem is still occurring with only Yoast SEO and a default theme active, this may be due to something specific to your site’s WordPress configuration.
Due to the nature of the issue, we’ll need to take a look at your setup to see what’s going on here exactly. However, we are unable to take a look at your setup as this is a public forum. So, if you have a Yoast SEO Premium subscription or willing to purchase one at https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/, you can have our premium support where we can investigate the issue privately to see what’s going on here.
Thanks for your understanding!
