Issue: Using the %category_flat% structure tag doesn’t use the primary category.

I see from an early support ticket that you added support for Yoast’s primary categories, which is what we’re using here. We’re on WordPress 5.0.2, Permalink Manager Lite 2.1.2.3 and Yoast 9.6.

After setting the primary category, I tried running the ‘Regenerate/Reset’ tool using the ‘Restore Native Permalinks’ mode. This reverted to the primary category, but also included the parent category in the permalink. Running ‘Custom URI’ mode removed the parent category from the permalink, but then ignored the primary category selection.

e.g. a post has the following categories assigned:

    • Career (Top level)
    • Members (Audience/~)
    • Communication (Learning/Skills/~)

I set the primary category as ‘Members’.

    • Restore native permalinks mode changes ‘career/postname’ to ‘audience/members/postname’
    • Custom URI mode changes ‘audience/members/postname’ to ‘career/postname’

But what we really want is ‘members/postname’

I hope that is clear enough to help.

    Hi Matt,

thank you for letting me know. You are absolutely right – I fixed it in 2.1.2.4 version that can be downloaded from here:
    https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/permalink-manager.2.1.2.4.zip

It will take me few more days to test it (the new version contains also another improvements), but you are free to install the new version of plugin manually.

    Best regards,
    Maciej

    Amazing, thanks!

That works straight out of the box, so long as I remember to use the ‘Regenerate/Refresh’ tool in ‘Custom URIs’ mode after saving the product.

I know I’m being picky on an otherwise BRILLIANT plugin, but could it automatically regenerate/refresh the permalink (for that product only) on save? (Only if the category or primary category has changed)

Thanks for the prompt fix tough; very helpful indeed!

    Hi @mugwumpman,

you can enable this using “Auto-update the URI” option in URI editor:
