After looking at the Geodirectory articles on Yoast, I’m undecided on whether Yoast SEO is even worth using. Does anyone have any practical advice on this? I’m always keen to reduce plugins where possible!

    Thanks

  • GeoDirectory has its own SEO options, but is also fully compatible with Yoast and Rank Math.
You can find more info @ https://docs.wpgeodirectory.com/article/369-settings-overview-for-general-titles-metas and https://docs.wpgeodirectory.com/search?collectionId=5e7220c92c7d3a7e9ae95ce4&query=seo

You can always start without Yoast or Rank Math, and you can add it at anytime if you find you need to.

    Thanks

    Hi @comclusive,

I am not the in-house SEO guy but I will ping them to see if they have anything to add here. For now, I’ll just pass you some info on the subject ??

We are compatible with Yoast and RankMath however we also have lots of our own built in features for SEO. If you look under GD > Settings > General > Titles & Meta: then you can set the title and meta info exactly as you like for all of our directory pages. With our Location Manager extension, you can also set these 100% individually for different locations.

We have schema markup by default for all listings and you can adjust the schema type per category. Our schema also includes the recently introduced types for temporarily closed and for online events as well as reviews and business hours etc.

Again, I will ping our SEO team to see if they have anything to add later today.

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

Thanks both for the really quick replies.

My thoughts were that as GD has so many SEO elements it may be unnecessary to add Yoast to the mix. My gut feeling is to try it without and see what happens. The site is under dev at the moment so is not being crawled.
    Thanks again

If your site is purely a Directory, you could do without an SEO plugin, but you won’t be able to optimize it 100%. IMHO it’s not a very good idea.
If other than the directory you have pages and blog, not installing an SEO plugin is definitely a bad idea.

    Thanks
