Hi Yoast and thank you for your amazing work.

I paid attention to all my websites to include only page and post in sitemap, as I hate to see useless attachements or author indexed.
Recently I updated almost all websites to latest version, I noticed indexation of attachements etc of useless things. Checking sitemap, all now include carousel sitemap, author, attachement etc.

Update automatically ticked or included all taxonomies, and changed the sitemap I did set up before the update.

Fortunately, one of my websites (https://www.zoombyanaisc.fr/) still runs Yoast 6.3.1. Sitemap is still right. I can do it for you guys, if I update to Yoast 7.1, it will automatically include taxonomies, media attachments etc and Change the sitemap.

I took me long time to fix sitemap on every single website, and one customer really angry to see useless attachments indexed by Google.

    Thanks for your help,

We apologize for any inconvenience. The issue you are experiencing is a known bug where updating the Yoast SEO plugin from v6.* restores some of the previous settings. Our developers are working hard to the fix the issue.

In the meantime, we recommend you to manually set the noindex on the content types that you don’t wish to see in the XML sitemaps.

You don’t seem to remember that there is no MEDIA or ATTACHMENTS section in the CONTENT TYPES TAB.
Can you tell us if, in order to get rid of the attachments URLs in the sitemap and results of Google we should…

    1. Go to the MEDIA tab
    2. Redirect attachment URLs to the attachment itself? SET TO NO
    3. Show Media in search results? SET TO NO (so that attached media is shown in results, but non attached media doesn’t).

I have been finding attachments URLs in SERPs where I did not look for an image, and this is not user-friendly. Whomever is googling for “such keyword” without specifying they want images, should NOT get results of images urls.
