When I try to upload my sitemap to Pinterest for the data source ingestion, I receive this error:
“Your feed file has an XML formatting issue. Make sure you are not missing a tag.”

I have tried both the index sitemap and the product sitemap. They both have the same error.

I added the snippet to the cache plugin like suggested so the sitemap wouldn’t cache. I still received the same error. I then uninstalled the cache plugin. I am still receiving the same error message.

I sent an email to Pinterest with my sitemap links and their error message, and I received this response:
“The XML feed that you have created is not in the correct format because of which our system is not being able to ingest it. Make sure your feed is in XML (RSS 2.0) (Download XML example) and is created according to the sample feed (I have attached it to this email for reference).
Also, the feed should have all the required fields and should be created according to our specifications.
You can also try creating the feed in CSV or TSV format. This link has more details on how to create the feed and how to set it up.”

I have been researching this for weeks, and I can not find a solution that works.

I have not altered any code, so I am not sure why my Yoast sitemap is not working for Pinterest. Is it compatible?

  • Hi @moyer72,

The RSS format should be a list of posts on your site and the sitemaps should contain a list of URLs for search engines to index. The format used by RSS feeds is very different from that of the sitemaps, so it’s not possible to submit the Yoast SEO sitemaps to Pinterest.

Instead, you can find the RSS feed for any archive page like a product archive or category archive in WordPress by adding “/feed/” to the URL.

Yoast SEO doesn’t generate these feeds, but you can read more about feeds in WordPress.

Thank you for responding. When Pinterest asked for an XML, CSV, or TSV format I just thought of the sitemap.xml. I appreciate you explaining the difference.
