    My site is hosted by hosteurope and i have WP 5.5.1 installed. And with respect, I don’t think the problem has anything to do with the hoster. Please have a look at your history to see what caused the error the last few times.

    Just to add, error is NOT related to 1 hosting company, I have same issue on 3 different hosts so far.

    @kramarz Thanks for following up! In a previous comment, you mentioned that you had a development site. Can you please try the suggestions below on that site and let us know the results?

    1. Try deleting the Yoast SEO plugin from Plugins > Installed Plugins and re-installing a fresh copy of the latest version – Yoast SEO v15.2. Alternatively, you may try manually re-installing the plugin via FTP.
    2. Check if the problem is the same if you enable the incognito mode in your browser or try a different browser, i.e. Firefox
    3. Deactivate all plugins (including Yoast SEO), switch the theme to Twenty Twenty and check if any JavaScript errors appear in your browser’s console when editing a post
    4. Check if the problem is the same when you create a new post with no content

    Thanks!

    @the-dude-1 I see you’re using Yoast SEO Premium. Can you please contact our premium support here? They’ll be more than happy to look further into the issue and handle your support request via email. Thanks!

    @dndgh @inaluna Can you please check for JavaScript errors in your browser’s console as this help article explains? Are you getting the exact same errors reported by Kramarz on this comment? If not, please create a new topic with the error details so that our team can specifically investigate your issue and provide better support.

    @monbauza I have created fresh dev at https://www.yoastissue.abbott-dev.com/

    Did nothing to it, besides installing your plugin and activating it.

    Same issue.

    I have checked in Chrome, but I work in Firefox. Issue is there in both browsers.

    Incognito mode fixes nothing.

    Would you like me to send you login details?

    Hi @kramarz,

    Thanks for all your efforts in troubleshooting this issue. Sorry to hear the problem persists. What about the bullet point 3) above? Do any errors appear in the browser’s console when you are on the post edit screen and Yoast SEO is disabled?

    On a separate note, does anyone know how the hell do I contact www.ads-software.com support? As I am NOT receiving any replies notifications at all, for AGES now.

    “Always notify me via email of follow-up posts in any topics I reply to” – this does not work for me….

    Plugin Support marcanor

    (@marcanor)

    Hi @dndgh, @inaluna

    Thanks for your patience. We understand that having this issue suddenly break the plugin on your site is cause for concern.

    We’ve found that this issue is occurring because there is something on the server that’s preventing the Configuration Wizard Javascript file (configuration-wizard-1520.js) from being loaded. The server is returning a 403 Forbidden error for this file. This error, in turn, is breaking the Configuration Wizard and the Yoast Metabox.

    There are many reasons why this may occur from a security plugin, server security (mod_security is a common one), a Web Application Firewall (WAF) rule, or a custom .htaccess rule.

    To check if this is the case on your site, please open a post edit screen and check for JavaScript errors in your browser’s console as this help article explains. You should find a 403 Forbidden error similar to the one in this screenshot.

    If this is the case on your site, please contact your webhosting support team and ask them to check the server security settings like mod_security, Web Application Firewall (WAF) and .htaccess rules that cause the 403 Forbidden error for the /wordpress-seo/js/dist/yoast/configuration-wizard-1520.js file. Once the file loads successfully, we would expect the meta box to load as well.

    Thanks for your patience while we performed troubleshooting on this issue!

    @marcanor Problem solved. SiteGround support helped me finding the problem in the .htaccess

    Thread Starter Kramarz

    (@kramarz)

    @marcanor

    Ok, here’s the reason that caused this for me…

    I was (actually still am, and I guess I have to stop now…) using following snippet in .htaccess file, to block possibility to view files like readme files etc.:

    # Forbid Access to the following files
    <FilesMatch "(error_log|[rR]eadme|[cC]hangelog|[lL]icense|config|\.[hH][tT][aApP].*)">
       Order allow,deny
       Deny from all
       Satisfy All
    </FilesMatch>

    Seems like it’s causing issue with acessing your plugins’ JS files, and only yours, no issues ever at all with dozens of other plugins I use… and I don’t understand why…

    Any ideas?
