Yoast the double edged sword!!!!!
-
I have been a long time user of yoast plugins and i am a fan, but i think some parts of it have to be updated with the latest types requirements as new algorithm changes take effect.
For example…
The analysis tell you based on your focus keyword what it should be expecting eg Headings, Titles, Description etc.
However this is not entirely true anymore, infact from the research i have read having the same focus keyword in ALL aspects as the yoast plugin requires could signal over optimization and get you slapped.
If your focus keyword is “CARPENTER SYDNEY” as that is the term that has traffic you simply cant have that keyword WITHIN the content contextually as its missing some stop words to make it make sense eg, CARPENTER in SYDNEY.
Here is the double edged sword, the plugin does NOT drop stop words. PERIOD, this has been an issue for a number of years and also i have seen SEVERAL posts on this topic with no real answers. WHY ?
Continuing on with the analysis, imo the methods are outdated!!!
The reason i say this continuing on with my above example, is that you simple cannot use the focus keyword (that yoast relies on to make its analysis) in the TITLE, in the CONTENT, in the URL, in the H1, in the H2, in the meta DESCRIPTION, in the meta TITLE.
That is now seen as massive optimization and not to mention really does not look NATURAL.
If my meta description was to say “Come and visit us if your looking for CARPENTERS IN SYDNEY, best prices guaranteed” This automatically gets a RED DOT in the analysis, WHY ? It shouldnt. The yoast plugin is not taking LSI keywords neither stop words into account, which is not a good thing.
You may say, “Well the plugin is just meant to guide you in the right direction” but that is just an excuse, you should really refine the plugin so on the face of it, actually informs the user in a smarter way what needs to be done rather than be static and show a red dot which signals BAD.
The analysis method and criteria in the yoast plugin has been the same for many years with very little added or modified over its time.
Dont you think its time to redefine the way the plugin handles the analysis and how its suppose to guide the user into good SEO practises ?
P.s: This is not a rant but more on the lines of “questioning” its functionality. I am sure there are legitimate reasons (hopefully) so i guess i would like to hear them.
Thanks for reading.
