• LS,

I am not getting the “Your Custom Content Types” dialogue and no checkbox to enable “Portfolio Projects” in Dashboard > Settings > Writing.

I am running WP 4.1 on my local machine, installed Espied, installed Jetpack (3.3 / development mode), activated Custom Content Types in Jetpack Settings … No “Your Custom Content Types” in Dashboard > Settings > Writing; No Portfolio content type folder in the Dashboard sidebar.

I have tried a clean WP install, that didn’t help.

(FYI: I tried plugin: Portfolio Post Type | https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/portfolio-post-type/ which does give me the Portfolio folder and i can add PF items. Problem is the Espied theme doesn’t present it’s great thumbnailed/grid Portfolio page with this plugin)

I have done the same routine on a wordpress.com hosted site … and all seems to run fine (stefkolman.wordpress.com). I have posted two screenshots of my settings pages there as well.

    hope you can help.
    best regards
    sk

  • Hello lickny2001,

    Hope you’re well! ??

The portfolio feature of the theme Espied works fine on my local install as you can see here: https://prntscr.com/5p438s

Could you tell me the software you are using to run local website( I use mamp) and also disable all the plugins especially the one you use for creating ‘portfolio’ post type . Setup the permalink to use “post name” located in Settings > Permalink then check it again if it resolve the issue.

Hope it helps! ?? Let me know.

    Take care,
    Calvin

P.S I also don’t get the “Your Custom Content Types” but it works out of the box.

Hi Calvin, I’m fine thank you …

I’m running mamp as well. deactivated all plugins, re-saved permalinks, de-activated/activated all jetpack options … No luck ??

If nothing else comes up, I can try a clean install of all sw once more later today.

I’m not running my sites in the mamp>htdocs folder yet in my Sites folder through vhost config file … Could this cause any issues?

    Hello lickny2001,

I’m not running my sites in the mamp>htdocs folder yet in my Sites folder through vhost config file … Could this cause any issues?

Nope, I also store my web files out htdocs folder.

I suggest you try it on a fresh install if you can.

Put this code in your wp-config.php ( I know you put it already because this is the needed step to make jetpack plugin to dev mode )

    define('JETPACK_DEV_DEBUG', true);

Activate the “Custom Content Types” module in Jetpack.Hopefully at this point you can see the portfolio menu item on the dashboard.

Keep me in the loop! ?? Looking forward to solve this issue.

    still no luck:
    – deleted WP folder > dropped dbase > clean install of WP4.1 > installed Jetpack > made development wp-config.php changes > activated JP / Custom Content Type option: no Portfolio Menu

    – saved Permanlink settings to Post Name: no luck

    – installed /activated Espied: Dashboard > Settings > Writing: No Custom Content Type dialogue or activation checkbox …

must be something with: connecting to wordpress.com?

    hurrrr whats next ??
    thanks for your support

I did, sorry no result …

    Hey there lickny2001,

Sorry to hear the issue still not solve..

You said it worked on wordpress.com host so I think it has to do with MAMP or a setting in your machine. I suggest you try to debug your local install https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Debugging_in_WordPress.

Looking forward for your reply! ??

    Cheers!

Hi there, I got exactly the same problem here. Tried to install a new installation, the problem still occur. Interesting thing is, I have a wordpress blog, and the option works well…

Is this option not available in wordpress 4.X CMS?

Is it only working on spesific theme?

clowdstride – Custom Content Types is a module in the Jetpack plugin, as I mentioned above. It is not something built into the WordPress core. You’ll need to make sure that Jetpack is active with the Custom Content Types module selected in order to use the portfolio feature in Espied and other themes which support the feature. If you’re having trouble with your Jetpack setup, please post in the Jetpack forum and provide a link to your site there.

    Hi,

Anyone come up with a solution for this? I am fairly certain I have followed the instructions perfectly on how to get this working. Jetpack: installed, activated; Custom Content Types: installed, activated. WP Admin > Settings > Writing:

    Portfolio Projects
    Your theme supports jetpack-portfolio.
Portfolio pages display at most XY items.

But no checkbox anywhere. As a result, no Post Format selection shows up when adding a new Project. I am unable to set the post format and so shortcodes don’t work, etc.

    Thanks,
    Garrett

Hi Garret – a checkbox to activate portfolio projects only appears on WordPress.com sites.

It does not apply to self-hosted sites. On a self-hosted WordPress site, as long as your theme supports portfolios (like Espied) and you’ve activated the Jetpack Custom Contents module, it is normal and expected that you see this message in Settings > Writing: “Your theme supports jetpack-portfolio.” You will not see a checkbox there.

No checkbox needs to be selected in order for you to use portfolios on a self-hosted site running Espied and the Jetpack Custom Content module.

As a result, no Post Format selection shows up when adding a new Project. I am unable to set the post format and so shortcodes don’t work, etc.

Post formats and the portfolio shortcode are not connected.

If you’re having trouble using the portfolio shortcode we can investigate that. Here’s what I’d like you to do:

Please start a new thread in the Espied forum:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/espied#postform

Provide a link to your site.

Please explain step by step what you are attempting to do with the portfolio shortcode. We will have a look and try to help.

I’m going to close this thread now and anyone else who needs help with Espied can feel free to start a new thread.

    Thanks!
