The plugin keeps generating the message “Your donation could not be processed. Please reload the page and try again.” even though the payments are going through, but it looks like it isn’t. How do we fix this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi @myntillae – thanks for reaching out.

Can you confirm what version of Charitable you are using? If you recently updated to Charitable 1.8.1 can you check to see if there are any notices to update database tables in your WordPress admin? There should be a message appearing at the top of your admin area? Thanks.

Hi @myntillae – we also observed some text in the AJAX channel for your donation forms that might allow donations to go through but produce an error message similar to what you saw.

Make sure the WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY constant in your wp-config.php is set to false. Also make sure any plugins that might be turning “Debug mode” for WordPress on (especially for display, regardless of other settings) is set to “display logs” off (or deactivate the plugins to see if the problem persists). It’s rare, but sometimes a developer or hosting has these settings on in a production environment. If you need assistance with this in particular feel free to reach out to us and share temp admin credentials privately and securely and we can guide you to do this.

I think it’s working now. Updating the database tables, and whitelisting the page from cache, as well as adjusting something for Gravity Forms loading on the page seems to have helped. Thank you.

@myntillae – Thanks for the update! Our team attempted to do a few tests and didn’t see the issue either. For now, I will close this ticket but if you see any problems again or if you have any questions feel free to resume this conversation. ????

I am having the same issue – I’m getting the error message “Your donation could not be processed. Please reload the page and try again.”, but the donations are actually going through.

@myntillae Could you share more about the specific steps you took?

I believe I updated the database tables about a month ago.
I use Super Cache and I added /campaigns/ to rejected URL strings. What string(s) did you whitelist?
What did you adjust in Gravity Forms?

This is my first WordPress site and I am learning as I go, on a website that was set up by someone else, so there are some gaps in my understanding of how everything works!

    Any help is much appreciated.

Hi @lagartijacreative, sorry you’re having issues. Hopefully I remember everything I did. I believe I used the WPOptimize plugin to optimize the WordPress tables. I also cleared all cache plugins and the server cache. We whitelisted the URL/permalink for the specific page running the donation form. And then I think I enabled AJAX for Gravity Forms or something like that—it was a few months ago I did this, so my memory is failing me on specifics, so my apologies on not having more details.

@myntillae Thank you so much! That’s super helpful!

I am also having the same issue – I’m getting the error message “Your donation could not be processed. Please reload the page and try again.”, but the donations are actually going through. Also even when I set payment gateway to test mode the payment went through!

Updated the tables as prompted by Charitable. Is there further help I can get on this?

@blissmission I would follow the other suggestions above – but i’ll repeat some of that here:

Make sure the WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY constant in your wp-config.php is set to false. Also make sure any plugins that might be turning “Debug mode” for WordPress on (especially for display, regardless of other settings) is set to “display logs” off (or deactivate the plugins to see if the problem persists). While you are at it, you might want to turn off any caching (or whiltelist your donation page) just in case.

I would try those steps first. And feel free to share a link here (we can try to see if we can reproduce – even better if you can put Charitable into test mode before sharing the link). Thanks.

Thank you. I was able to check that WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY is set to false. I’m not aware of any plugins that might be turning debug mode for WordPress on, but I’m not sure how to check that. Also not sure about what caching or whitelisting is. I think I need some more help! Here is our form:

Currently our payment gateway is set to Test Mode.

@blissmission thanks for sharing the link. just attempted to test it quick so we can share it with our team, but i didn’t spot a place to enter a donation and the error message confirms I didn’t enter anything: https://a.supportally.com/i/YstMun

Can you confirm there’s a donation amount? Can you confirm what settings regarding goals, etc for your campaign are there? It shouldn’t be possible usually NOT to have SOME kind of field to enter an amount.

Finally, noticed you appear to be using the recurring extension, which probably means you are a license holder for the paid Charitable version. If you are send your email associated with your account along with a support request to us and you’re support will be included in priority support.
