• Hi, I’m working on a blogging website, with other features that have to do with the theme of my niche. All my pages are created using Elementor. All my pages are privately published as well (due to be made public very soon). My home page and blog page work fine. Both have Elementor templates when I visit the pages. On my blog page nothing showed up, except for the ”latest posts” on the sidebar. When I go to settings, and then reading, I have it set to a static page. Homepage is Home, but my posts page selection only shows Home as well, instead of ”Blog”. My pages do not show an additional Home page, just the one. If I go to Customize under Appearance, and go to Homepage Settings, I see the same thing. Just Home shows up, and posts does not show Blog.

I removed the Blog page and eventually remade it. The post is not published yet. I just don’t want to publish it and then have nothing happen when I make my site public. Does the blog page need to show up under ”posts page”? Or will the post show up on the Blog page when I publish?

  • The core option for Settings > Reading “show on front” is all about what query to do for each URL, and the query dictates what template file is loaded. It is only about Pages to use (for the URL). No posts can be chosen here.

The default, Latest Posts on front, means that your home URL (look in Settings > General) will invoke the query for the latest posts.

When the option is changed to static Page on front, the home URL results in a query for the particular page that you selected. That means that the URL that the page would have had, using its page slug, is not defined. That page’s permalink is set to the home URL.
At the same time, the page to use for posts (when a page is shown as home) gives up its URL to be the list of latest posts. That URL invokes a query of latest posts and the template file for latest posts is loaded. If you leave the option unselected, then there is no URL that is associated with a latest posts query. The content of the page that is selected is not shown, though. That’s what the option means: assigning a URL to the query.
