Hi, mi version is the last… 4.9.5 but when I install the plugin in the admin I saw this:

Your PHP version is very old: 5.2.8

Future versions of the WordPress Simple Firewall plugin will not support your PHP version.
You should ask your host to upgrade or provide a much newer PHP version.
If you have any questions, please leave us a message in the forums.

But my hosting told me than I need to put another plugin.
I need your help, I like this plugin.
    Thanks!

    Hi,

Your WordPress version is the current latest, and this is fine. WordPress supports running on PHP version 5.2.4+. They support this because so many web hosts are lazy about upgrading their PHP installations.

However, your version of PHP on your web hosting service is 5.2.8 and was released Dec 2008. That’s 7 years ago!

PHP is now up to version 5.6 and the advancements and improvements from 5.2 are vast.

You should really look to find a web host that runs AT LEAST 5.3 and move to them. Web hosts running 5.2 by default are, in my opinion, not worth your money and I would question their inherent quality and security.

May I ask who your web host is ? – just so I know never to recommend it to anyone.

    Thanks,
    Paul.

No problem! ?? happy to help…

    Thanks, Paul!
Great that your plugin caught this and I was able to update the PHP version on my client’s hosting before something went wrong and I then struggled to figure out what was wrong.

Interesting, though, the client is on godaddy, and the tech support person reported that, “oh he’s on an old hosting plan that only runs PHP up to 5.4. And the current plan is $140/yr.; the new upgraded plan would be $70/yr.”

Naturally, I said, “so let’s upgrade it.” He responded with, “right now?!” Turns out that I would have to purchase the new plan, MIGRATE the site, and then delete the old plan. However, they will refund the unused portion of the old plan.

Is it that way for all hosting, where in order to upgrade to the latest server software, one often has to migrate the website?

Yea, this makes sense. It’s not in their interests to move you themselves since they already have your custom. Frankly, I’d let them know that you’re going to go to another host instead if they don’t move you -after all, most hosts will move you to them free ??
