• I wanted to install Really Simple SSL, but during the installation, I was redirected and received the following message: ‘Your server is running PHP version 5.6.38 but WordPress 6.6.1 requires at least 7.2.24.’ I would like to add that I checked in cPanel and the site is running PHP version 8.3.

  • The best way to do this is to contact the Really Simple SSL support forum: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/really-simple-ssl/

I’d check Site Health, and/or run a phpinfo test.

If either of these checks also reports the site is running PHP version 5.6.38, then surely the site is running this older PHP version.

On cPanel systems, a common cause of this apparent discrepancy is user-specific webserver configuration code (typically in .htaccess or user.conf) pointing to the older PHP version. This effectively makes the older version what gets loaded to power the site, and not the new version configured in the cPanel dashboard.
