• I’m starting a small store selling physical products and wanted to know, is there a general consensus as to which is better? Artificer or the basic 2012 theme?

I’m not looking for anything super fancy, but starting on the right foot is best. But I’m a wordpress newb, and really don’t know anything about the who’s who of wordpress themes.

Both of these themes look nice enough out of the box.

    Thank you.

I’d say it depends what you prefer the look of. They’re pretty much polar opposites in that regard.

Both will be updated regularly to follow WP best practises so I’d say go with whichever you prefer.

What makes them polar opposites? They seemed too similar to me lol.

TwentyTwelve is a really clean, minimal theme, whilst Artificer has lots of textures, colours and skeuomorphic elements (like the products appearing as polaroids etc).

Open them up in browser windows next to each other and you’ll see what I mean.

Perhaps you were thinking of another free WooTheme ‘Mystile’: https://demo2.woothemes.com/mystile/ ? That one has a similar aesthetic to TwentyTwelve.

I’d also consider what you’re selling. A more minimalist theme will let your products really stand out, whilst a ‘busier’ design will give character.

hmm, thank you for that! its helpful… and based on the busy idea, I think I would benefit most from a simple theme to highlight the products and “ease” of the site. Thank you.
