Your Updates Are Hijacking Clicks

  • Whenever I set up a client’s website for ecommerce, I go with WooCommerce. However, I will be rethinking that with my next client, if this does not stop. After updating your plugin, any link I click in the dashboard (“Posts” for example), gets hijacked by your plugin’s What’s New page.

    This needs to stop.

    And implemented. This only shows for major updates now, not minors.

    I recently updated to 2.4.3 and guess what? It still hijacked my click. Not only is that incredibly annoying, it violates the WordPress Plugin Guidelines #11.

    I will not be recommending WooCommerce to any more clients.

    Okay, it doesn’t do it for minor updates, but I still will not be recommending WooCommerce to any more clients. I cannot in good conscience recommend software that is okay with clickjacking like that even if it is only on major version changes.

    Also, as I mentioned, it violates the WordPress Plugin Guidelines #11.

    Remove the clickjacking completely, and I will consider using your plugin again and even changing my rating.

    It’s not a hijack, its a redirect. The page is visible once. And it allows us to onboard people to new functionality they otherwise may be oblivious to seeing. WordPress itself does it after major updates. You must have seen this?

    What is your actual issue with it? That its not an instant redirect and requires an extra click in your case? If it were a notice with a link to the about page, would you still be against it?

    FYI, the redirect is gone as of 2.5 except for new installs who see the setup wizard. No more welcome screens.
