YouTube Down?

  • I’ve not been able to view embedded youtube vids, nor go directly to youtube.com for much of the morning. How long has this outage been happening? Any word on the cause? It seems to be totally offline, which is unusual for any Google property.

  • yes its down. how can anyone here tell you how long its been down?? How can anyone here tell you the cause??

    conjectures:

    1. massive denial of service attack
    2. severe exploit that allows botnet to infect user’s machines
    3. compromised user base
    4. too many hits on video of kid getting racked up by his skateboard

    whooami, I’m just posting here because I happened to be on this forum at the time. There are lots of folks here who embed youtube vids on their blogs or with podpress, so I thought maybe someone might have more info or be inclined to join a discussion re: youtube outage. Grab another cup of coffee and a muffin and relax.

    Here’s some good info about the previous youtube outage, which may possibly point to the cause of the current outage.

    Could a BGP block also affect WordPress in a similar way? We’ve all really come to like the automatic code updates, but could the interconnectedness of the WordPress platform have unintended consequences for standalone domains? What can we do to minimize or prevent such problems?

    I thought maybe someone might have more info or be inclined to join a discussion re: youtube outage.

    Sorry, I thought this miscellaneous forum category was for across-the-yard questions and discussions… plus I think the BGP block issue may apply to the growing interconnectedness of the WordPress platform (see revised post above.)
