• It seems with many new WordPress updates, things get broken. I used to have no problem at all with YouTube and now I’ve been seeing countless reports about YouTube and other embedding not working properly. Anyway, here’s my current problem. This is my post in Visual mode before I publish or preview.

Another three new titles have been added to the Arcade this weekend, which is available to members on the forum.

    Rick Dangerous
A remake of the classic late '80s game

    [embed width="800" height="600"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ht8dNTMdK8s[/embed]

    Super Mario Defence
    A Mario-themed defence game

    [embed width="800" height="600"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kwwEhJzY60[/embed]

    Power Pinball
This is a more complex pinball game set in a jungle, and uses scrolling and extra flippers

    [embed width="800" height="600"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHWZOsU7YFQ[/embed]

If I save a draft of this, it changes every time and removes lines. Here’s what happens in this instance.

As you can see, the post has been messed up and it looks pretty bad in the preview mode. I don’t want text packed up against embedded YouTube videos. That doesn’t do much good for readers’ eyes, and I can’t even increase the font size anyway for some bizarre reason using the Visual editor. (Yet, I’m advised not to switch between Visual and HTML since doing so is apparently buggy.)

    Any suggestions?

Not buggy so much as ‘has unexpected results’

That said, I put that code into my site: https://test.ipstenu.org/2011/08/fluid-mantis/ and it looks as expected. If I edit the post, it looks the same as it did before.

I did it all in the visual editor, too.

Thanks for testing it. That’s odd. The only difference was that the titles of the game (ex. Rick Dangerous) were in bold. Otherwise it should have just been plain text. My theme is outdated, but I didn’t think that would make a difference to the HTML that’s generated by WordPress itself. The plugins I currently use are:

    Advertising Manager
    Akismet
    Facebook Like Box
    Redirect
    WordBB
    WordPress Flash Uploader

I’d be doubtful about any of these causing the problem, but nearly all of them are needed. So I guess I’m stumped.

Were you hitting ‘shift-enter’ between the title of the game and the description?

I didn’t; it was just enter, although I wish WordPress only had the standard “enter” for a new line which is easier and perfectly functional.

I’ve tried using shift-enter this time, which still didn’t work (slightly different results but it still messed it up and removed bold from “Power Pinball”), so I’m not sure it’s related to that. I’d probably be better off disabling Visual mode and posting everything directly as HTML, as right now it seems that would be easier.

Yeah, if Visual is goofing like that … the only one of those plugins I’m using is Akismet :/ Dunno, it’s PROBABLY a plugin conflict.

After some tinkering I got it working, but thanks nevertheless. I think I’ll just use pure HTML in future. I’ve never had so much hassle with any other web software. Is there any way to just have enter create a new line and remove shift-enter entirely?
