youtube embed not working

Have you tried just entering the video url – eg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdDYszPCf_s

As said above, just enter the URL on it’s own, WordPress will do the rest for you.. ??

gets me a youtube player embedded and working.

But why

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdDYszPCf_s]

doesn’t work. any idea. should i put do_shortcode or something in my functions.php file
