On my blog I have about 800 posts/pages, many of them have a Youtube-movie on it.
The Youtube link is simply pasted into the editor and then even in the editor a preview can be seen, and on the published post or page the video can be watched.

Since the recent WP update however, all the videos are not displayed anymore but only the Youtube URL, like https://youtu.be/xx1SAjrqkIo

So links are now on my posts and pages, and not movies.

On all my other sites nothing has changed, all videos are working just fine.

This problem is browser independent, I have disabled all plugins and still the problem exitst. I have switched to WP 2014 theme but also on that theme it does not display the videos.

I did not use a plugin for displaying Youtube videos. The URL look the same in both WYSIWYG-editor and TEXT-editor.

Repasting the url in the editor does not resolve the issue, neither does enableding or disabling “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” in Settings->writing.

Anyone has any idea what causes this or how to fix it?

  • I was able to put that video link in my blog and it worked fine. All my existing videos also still seem fine with 4.5.1. So.. it should work.

Yes it should work, and yes that link works fine when pasted into the post editor of my other WP sites, but on this particular site it does not, and this is the problem…

I would start disabling all of the plugins to see if one of them is interfering and/or try an unmodified Twenty Sixteen or Fifteen theme to see if it’s theme related.

Yes good suggestions, unfortunately I already disabled all plugins and switched to a WP default theme: problem stays.

What browser are you using? I have a similar problem. The videos will show up fine in my editor in edit mode, but do not display when I go to view a page with a video on it. Apparently, the pages are fine when viewed in firefox, but I use the latest Safari browser and the videos don’t show up. (sigh) I just updated to 4.5.2 and the the problem isn’t solved yet.

Apparently, this problem has something to do with the follwoing, because the developer of my theme wrote:

The issue is likely with the last WordPress update failing as indicated by this script running your site: JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.0 .

And indeed I see more people with similar problems, but no solution yet.

I am having the exact same issue. My youtube video’s were displaying fine before the update.

Has anyone come across a solution yet

Yes same, several sites, several themes – stripped out all plugins, reactivated default themes! Not working anywhere!!

    (@fritsje)

I read that this JQMIGRATE-thing is causing all scripts on the site to stop after a certain point, so displaying Youtube videos or forms etc could be affected.

Wish WP came up with a new update to fix this JQMIGRATE thing.

It seems like we are getting a little closer. I hope something comes in soon to fix this issue..

Did any of you ask their hosting providers for help in this matter?
My hosting provider says to ask WP dev team what actions the hosting provider can take to fix this issue, but maybe some of you already got your hosting provider to fix things to solve this issue?

I dont think it has anything to do with this JQMIGRATE thing for me, as I have deactivated all plugins and made twenty fourteen the active theme! The link is still not expanding into an embed!

The above is assuming that the JQMIGRATE thing would be resolved as per this on stackoverflow although I accept that is taking about notification’s which isnt the issue.

The only way to remove the notice is to ensure all your plugins/theme code don’t rely on any old jQuery functionality, and then remove the migrate script…

I also have disabled all plugins and indeed the videos are not showing.

If it is JQMIGRATE or not: fact is that this error started to show it’s ugly head directly after the WP update to version 4.5.1 and has not been away since.
That article on Stackexchange states that it is just a message, but on other places I read that this JQMIGRATE-thing is causing scripts to stop running at a certain point on the pages, and indeed it looks like the youtube-url is not being converted, therefore it must be so that a script that does this conversion is not working through the page.

I have had NO from my host and my theme developer. Does anyone know the path to contact WP dev team about this in a way that they take an actual look at the issue?

Anyone got any progress with this?

    I have found the sollution:
Roll back your WP install to 4.5.0 (or have your host do this for you), then let the install automatically upgrade to 4.5.2 and then you need to edit/save your pages/posts containing the youtube URL and voila: it appears again!
Yes, resaving all posts/[ages is a pain in the behind but at least the videos are showing.

Hope this helps for you too.
