YouTube embed not working in 3.1
-
Upgraded today to 3.1 and when adding a YouTube embed code the video does not show.
Prior to upgrading, I have added 100’s of embed codes to the same blog without a problem.
Can you help?

You tube video will not embed now even on sites not upgraded to 3.1. and using the basic installed WordPress theme.
Remove the links from the view page urls and the videos should embed again just fine. It seems since 3.1 WP has an internal conflict, it auto-converts urls to hyperlinks, and auto-embeds videos, but not if the url is linked.
We just confirmed that by removing the link from the url and updating the post, our videos display. A pain, but a fix nonetheless. Good luck!
I’m having major problems embedding youtube videos in my two blogs, one with 3.0 and one with 3.1. I have tried embedding using every method discussed here and in some other threads. Worse of all, occasionally one method will work, and then hours later it will fail to work.
Can someone please identify the core problem here and not keep pointing to the standard support docs, which are clearly not addressing the current issue!
It is total crap and WordPress is negligent in not tackling it and not even replying or admitting the problem.
You need to use the frame embed code. Paste it in the html section and update.
If you then edit the post – even one character – you will lose the video and need to embed it again. It is a complete pain.
I am using WP 3.1.1.
I have followed to the letter the Codex on embedding (https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Embeds) but all I ever see is the (unlinked) text of my Youtube URL.Now, since I always wish these videos to be centred on the page, I position my cursor in the text of the URL (in Visual mode) and click the “Align Centre” icon. Checking the HTML, this sets my Youtube URL between paragraph tags with: style=”text-align: center”.
As an experiment I edited the HTML to remove the paragraph tags (along with the center alignment) but ensured that the URL was still on a separate line in the HTML window. Guess what? The video now displays perfectly.
I’m keen to hear if others are able to fix this issue in the same way.
For those that are used to using the “Old embed code”, here is a solution I found after hours of frustration.
The Problem – After pasting the “Old embed code” in the “HTML” section, it changes to a code that doesn’t work when you switch back to “Visual” to build your post.
The Solution – After pasting the “Old embed code” in the “HTML” section, then “SAVE DRAFT”. The code will still change when you switch back to “Visual” but it will be one that works.
You can then copy that code to the post (HTML section) where you want the video or just build that post if its a new post you are building.
If you are adding the video to a post already published, I found it is best to set up the video code (above) in a separate “test video” post that you never intend to publish. Then copy and paste that code in your already published post and “Update”.
I found that pasting the old embed code in an already published post in HTML then hitting “Update” before switching to “Visual” sometimes works..but it is not as stable and you lose the video when you make future changes.
Summary – paste old embed code in HTML – SAVE DRAFT – switch to Visual – switch back to HTML – use that new HTML code for your video.
try tinyMCE advanced plugin and check “stop removing <p> and
tags” checkbox: for the autoembed to work the url needs to be UNLINKED and ON A LINE OF ITS OWNThe auto-embed does NOT work with 3.1.3 using the Youtube SHORT URLs. So if your link looks like this:
https://youtu.be/Vw4KVoEVcr0
It won’t work. You’ll need the full URL from address bar like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw4KVoEVcr0
I’m having the same problem. There used to be a simple green colored reel icon that took you to the simple load in window. Whatever happened to that icon? Everything I’ve tried so far today has not worked. I can’t get up any YouTube videos. Now I hit the “add video” icon above the group of icons, load everything in and all it does it put in the description. HELP!!!
DOES NOT WORK IN WIDGETS!!
When using this in a widget, this simply IS NOT WORKING consistently. For some reason, it works on the homepage, but not on individual pages.
After seeing this thread, I tried it with the [embed width="123" height="456"]…[/embed] tag and it doesn’t work AT ALL.
WHY would they not test this before rolling it out??
I’ve had this problem on several sites and am looking for a solution. This is just maddening that they haven’t fixed this.
I know this says it’s resolved, but this morning, I tried using the “old” version of copying the Youtube URL into my post (as I’ve done a few times in the past), and when I preview the post, all I get is the text of the URL, not the actual video as I have in the past. I’m using version 3.2.1, and from what I gather, this actually hasn’t been resolved.
I agree trampli1,
I’m was trying to rebuild my blog and I find the same thing when I use the same code as before they just show up as text in the actual blog post. I was happy when I learned before how to add videos to my blog and how to position them, now I’m back to square one and I’m not a pro at wordpress so if someone knows the fix I would greatly appreciate it. I read as far back as 5 months ago they had this problem there must has been a fix that I over looked. ThanksI also am unable to embed a Youtube file but can embed a vimeo file.
When I put this link in a post, just the text appears:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmfE5KPnYjwWhen I put this vimeo link, the video appears in the post.
https://vimeo.com/27808714I am using the latest version of WordPress 3.2.1
Mac OSX 10.6.8Yes, it’s confirmed the problem is STILL occuring….
I’ve been installing WordPress on different websites and trying different themes, and only I think around the first theme I tried did the post link and it would auto-convert to a video work.
All other themes I’ve used, it only posts a link. No matter what I do, can’t get it to show a video.
However, did just try the [embed] code, and it DID show the video in one I’m using now. (now to try and figure a way for it to post on the homepage also) ??What bull crap. After all this time, you would think they would be able to keep a simple function as the must have video posting ability. What use are these CMS’s really??? One has to be tech geeks to use the dange things! Might as well go back to HTML templates…. It’s just as complicated. ??
I have the same problem.
