    Hello,

I couldn’t get the YouTube feed to work at all. Despite confirming “Valid” credentials, all I’m getting every time is the message:

400 - A VALID access token is required to request this resource. Here are some possible solutions to fix the error. NOTICE: Error only visible to Admin.

I created the first API key – not working. Then deleted it, created a second API key – again not working.

What’s even worse, it disabled the previously working Facebook feed.

Now I at least got the Facebook feed to work again, but all of this is extremely confusing, to say the least.

The help page on how to create a YouTube API Key:

    https://www.slickremix.com/documentation/create-youtube-api-key

appears to be outdated – not all pages and options look like what the help page and the screenshots on it say they do, and there are additional new sections, such as OAuth, that the help page doesn’t mention in any way. Perhaps this is the reason why the YouTube feed doesn’t work?

At this point, all I can do is just abandon the YouTube feed as an impossible thing to achieve…

    Thank you for any help.

Thanks for reaching out and checking out our plugin. I can understand how it can be confusing to set up multiple feeds at first glance. If you want to create more than one feed you have to click the button or menu option that says “Add New Feed”. Then choose the feed you want and add your options. Then when finished you add the shortcode to whatever page or post you need to display the feed on.

I understand you created an API key for YouTube and are still having some trouble getting it setup. After you have create a New feed and have the API key saved and added your YouTube options, if it’s still not working please use the blue beacon in the bottom right corner of that page. This will send me your system info and feed options so I can take a closer look and help debug the problem. Don’t worry we’ll get you sorted ??

Thank you, Spencer. Working fine now. For my most recent attempt, I followed a different, external webpage that said how the YouTube API key can be created, and it worked fine that way. Maybe it would have the first time around with your help page, too, but I misunderstood that separate feeds need to be created for the Facebook feed and for the YouTube feed – there may have been some interference there.

Your help page on how to create the YouTube API key is from early 2023, and it looks like Google has changed a few things in the meantime. There’s that new OAuth section, but it looks like it can be safely ignored while setting up the API key.

By the way, one thing that doesn’t work with the Facebook feed is that the “Like box” is never displayed on mobile phones – only on desktops and tablets. Are you aware of that? Facebook has recently started totally blocking the display of the “Like box” on mobile phones, for some reason… But at least your FTS feed doesn’t display any empty subwindow with an error message instead of the “Like box”, like other Facebook feed plugins do that we tested. Well, I guess we can live without the “Like box” on mobile phones, if Facebook decided to make it totally impossible to access in any way there.

That’s great news and thanks for letting me know about our documentation. I’ll get that updated so future users don’t run into the same trouble.

I believe some browsers and even Facebook blocks the Likebox do to privacy reasons now. It used to be that you had to be logged into Facebook for them to appear but I have noticed inconsistencies in recent years.

Right. It’s just mystifying as to why Facebook would apply those alleged “privacy protection measures” on mobile phones specifically. Don’t tablet and desktop users deserve the same kind of supposed protection? Haha.

Even when I’m on the mobile phone, and activate the Desktop mode in the browser, Facebook’s Like box promptly appears. Back to regular mobile mode, and the Like box immediately disappears. (In your plugin – in other plugins, a nasty-looking empty window with an error message about m.facebook.com being unable to connect pops up.) It makes zero sense.

I’ve just persuaded our school’s management to purchase your plug-in, so we’re going to subscribe. Thank you for all your help.
