I’m testing Zemanta in our editorial platform. We have the plugin set to save images to our local media library.

Despite setting that option, the plugin keeps hotlinking to the flickr image farm. The plugin is working well, but I get a little hinky about plugins adding html bugs and hotlinking to outside sites.

Is there a way (aside from manually deleting the HTML) to remove the hotlinking when the local option is active – or offer a paid version that provides the image and link search without requiring the bug?

    Hey!

Hm, that does sound weird. Would you be so kind and send us the link to one of your blog-posts where you have used our plugin to insert images? We’d love to take a closer look.

Also — the caption below the images are supposed to link out back to the source, since we like to show the credits of the image, but I’ve got a feeling this is not what you meant, right?

Let us know what’s going on — we’d love to help you out! Here’s our email address: [email protected]

Take care & have a nice day!

You are correct. Upon reexamination of the message’s HTML, the image from Flickr.com links to the entry in our local media library. It is the _caption_ which is linking out. A nice refinement to the plugin would attach the image’s credit (not caption) to the locally-saved image. This permits an editor to customize the end caption to suite the attached news item. I see Zemanta as a potentially-valuable editorial tool, but some aspects are more tailored to the casual blogger.

This is true, we cannot argue with that, the “casual blogger” is someone we want to help in the first place and that’s why we think that the credits in captions are our (and theirs) safest option. At least for now.

That’s why we do appreciate your feedback, really! We certainly hope we’ll be able to include this feature to our users someday in the near future, although I cannot make any promises.

But please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any kind of additional questions or inquiries about our service — I’ll gladly help!

    Take care!

    Best,
    Silvo
