• Twice now I’ve seen install.php come back from the dead. That is, a WP installation is up and running fine, but I see the initial install page that links to install.php instead of the blog. When it first happened to me I panicked, then opened the page in another window to discover my blog was there. I brushed it off as some weird browser cache problem, but I just saw it on someone else’s blog. I was probably running 1.0.2 at the time; I don’t know what he’s running.
I understand that you can’t break an install by running install again, but unsolicited offers to install the software are distressing nonetheless.

  • What must have happened is that for some reason index.php would have been unable to open wp-config.php momentarily, and so should have thought that WP is not installed yet, I beleive.
This could have been due to caching too.
In any case, I could the blog you referenced above perfectly well.
What browser were you using when you noticed this problem?

I was using Safari 1.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.3.3, but it can’t be responsible for the problem on the other person’s blog. I suppose it’s possible he was reinstalling the first time I tried to reach the site – which works fine for me now as well.
