No, I had our normal theme active, not TwentyTen, when I had only NextGEN Gallery active.
But is it safe to (even just temporarily) switch our public live production site to a different theme to try this? Will all be the same when I switch back to our normal custom theme? I never did this before.Yes unfortunately since our beta site does not have the problem, there is nothing to ‘test’ there first.
I guess we would have to pay someone, yet again, to make a copy of our live site as a separate staging site… if we didn’t want to test on live site first.
Thanks for the advice you have provided thus far.
What file would I put this custom snippet in?
This is not resolved.
As instructed, I tried de-activating all plugins, and then re-activated only NextGEN Gallery. As I feared, this didn’t make any difference… the Gallery Settings page was still missing those text labels and not functioning right, even when NextGen Gallery was the only active plugin.
Then I re-activated each of the other plugins one by one, and NextGEN remained the same after each one (except for the JumpMobi plugin which was the last one I re-activated – a different page of NextGEN reacted to that, in a different way. This a separate minor issue, it seems to be unrelated, but I will opened a separate issue about this).
Interestingly enough though, I forgot to mention something else in my previous post:
Last month to test out updating to WordPress 4.8 and updating all of our plugins to the latest versions (including NextGEN Gallery), our developer used an older version of our Beta testing site that is about 2 years old: https://inplace.beta04.ascedia.com/.Unlike our live site (www.inplace.com), the Gallery Settings page on our Beta site is not malfunctioning or missing any text labels: https://inplace.beta04.ascedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Gallery-Settings-Page-on-Beta-is-Normal.jpg
There doesn’t seem to be much different about the beta site that would cause the difference in behavior of the NextGEN Gallery other than it is older and has less various revisions than the live site. The live site has all the same active plugins as the beta site except for one – we replaced the Platinum SEO Pack plugin with the Yoast SEO plugin. Note the following conditions:
1) The issues with the NextGEN Gallery Settings page had already been happening prior to deactivating the Platinum SEO Pack plugin and adding the Yoast plugin, anyway.
2) The live site has also had some more recent plugin updates that the beta site doesn’t have, but again, the issues with NextGEN Gallery were already happening prior to this.
3) I realize we may have not used ideal procedure in doing our site upgrades, in that the beta testing site was not equal to the live site, and the uprgrades were done separately, done on beta first and then repeated on live. So obviously something is different about the 2 iterations of the site which caused NextGEN Galley to update smoothly on the beta but not the live… but it is very difficult to pinpoint what that is.
Again, any further assistance anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

beta site: inplace.beta04.ascedia.comI have since realized these should be entered as 2 separate issues. I will close this topic and start 2 new separate ones.

In reply to: [Redirection] It’s not working for me, please show thorough documentationI have had the same issue. It would appear that perhaps, automatically created redirects is only supposed to work for Posts, but not Pages — I was hoping to get a response from the plugin author on what it is definitely supposed to do or not do.

In reply to: [Gecka Submenu] "Current page's top parent" option doesn't work with 3.5To Gecka:
The sidebar menus of our website are disabled right now because this plugin doesn’t want to work with PHP 5.4.9 (that our host upgraded to without us knowing). We were using version 0.5.3 of this plugin, we are running WordPress 3.1In a different forum a user suggested fixing it by “removing the leading ampersands (“&”) from the function calls (not the definitions)”, because “Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated since PHP 5.3, and has been removed from PHP 5.4”
Can you fix this? Or was this already fixed in a newer version (or the Pro version)? We need to get this resolved ASAP.
We experienced the same problem last week on our website, quite possibly due to our host updating their PHP from version 5.3.10 to 5.4.9.
As a temporary measure, our web development company had to deactivate the Gecka Submenu plugin from our site– so currently our site is without the sidebar menus it is supposed to have–
https://www.inplace.comWill this plugin ever get fixed to work with later PHP versions?

In reply to: [Gecka Submenu] Can't activate it! 0.7 beta 3 released todayOur website (www.inplace.com) has been down since Friday 12-21-2012, 10:00am, and has been showing this error message ever since then when it is entered in a browser:
Fatal error: Call-time pass-by-reference has been removed in /home/cc0260/public_html/wp-content/plugins/gecka-submenu/models/Submenu.php on line 137
1) On Thursday, 12-20-2012, our web development company fixed a formatting issue on the News section of our website (https://www.inplace.com/news/), but the site still worked after they were done.
2) Our web host restored our website to the backup of Wednesday, 12-19-2012, restoring both the home directory and the MySQL database. However, this did nothing to help.
3) I have in our records that up until recently we have been running PHP version 5.3.10. But according to our web host they are now running PHP 5.4.9.
Could our site outage have been caused by this PHP upgrade, as other have experienced? If so, how do we fix this? We CANNOT wait for the publisher to fix the plugin. And I doubt that our host will downgrade their version of PHP just for us.
