In order for me to get the domain name in the first place, I checked with GoDaddy and Brain Host to determine if the domain was available. Both of their title searches showed that it was available. Because of the program I chose to buy into, I went with Brain Host on their recommendation. I got the cadillac version of what Brain Hoest had to offer so I figured that they would do thatever is necessary to ensure that the domain was mine. If there is something else I was supposed to do, I am unaware of it.

Along this same line, when I go to my dashboard home, I have 3 affiliate banner codes I can enter which go into my side board. The theme also allows me to change the page style so that I can ad a secondary sidebar as well and I can drag widgets to the sidebar and the blank boxes for these widgets show up. The problem is that I don’t seem to see any provision for entering code for the secondary widgets on the dashboard home page. Either I have missed something or I have misunderstood how the “Lifestyle Child Theme” is set up. Any suggestions? I just want to put affiliate links in the three widgets in the secondary sidebar.

Thanks for the posts. Please keep in mind that I am someone who is used to working with FrontPage and creating pages instead of blogs. I am having a hard time trying to understand how WordPress works. Back in the “olden days”, I would create a “Homepage” that had a menu on it that allowed a visitor to navigate to other pages on a website. I could assign a page format for each individual page by using the HTML code associated with the format I wished to create and it was not dependent upon using a theme. This gave me a lot more control over the look of a website. The analogy would be similar to a book that has a table of contents or index at the beginning of it, which tells the reader on what page to find what they are looking for. The reader would then flip to the appropriate page. I am gathering that WordPress does not work quite like that so for me to say that I am wanting to create a “page post type” or a “post” is all foreign to me. To demonstrate what I mean, when I go to my WordPress website on the internet, what opens up is what I would call my “Homepage” because it has a menu on it (it also lists blogs in menu format)that will allow me to naviage to other parts of my site. When I click “Store” in the menu bar, I am taken to the “Store” page where a number of items are listed for sale through amazon.com. Because the menu is still visible on the “Store” page, I then have the option of returning to the “Homepage” or going to a different page on the site. If I choose to click “Interesting Facts” on the menu bar, I am taken to yet another page where there might be text and videos and pictures or sound clips, etc.

On the “Homepage” the format would be “header” (including menu bar), “sidebar” where Google Adsense ads are placed, and “main window” where information about blogs is placed. The “Store’ page has a format of “header” (including menu bar), and “main window” which takes the full width of the page and contains the ads from amazon.com, 3 ads by 3 ads, with pictures and text, plus a navigation bar (which comes from amazon.com, not WordPress). The amazon.com storefront takes pretty much the whole space of the “main window” (frame), therefore there is no room for a WordPress sidebar in which to place widgets. At this point, the “interesting Facts” page has the same format as the “store” page but I want to have it so that it has the same format as the “Homepage” because I want the widgets to appear in the sidebar. This has to be done, though, in a way that will NOT affect the “store” page.

I know I could create a new theme and select it from the themes dropdown, but the instructions that are on WordPress don’t give adequate information to someone like me who does not understand how WordPress works. For instance, when I read the bit about the ID code that needs to be put first, I am thinking, “Okay, so do I create the new theme somewhere in WordPress, if so, do I use the HTML box on the page I wish to modify the format or do I use the Theme Editor, or do I have to use an external HTML editor like FrontPage to accomplish this? The instructions don’t say, which leaves me scratching my head (and pulling out whatever hair I have left). I decided I needed to use FrontPage, but I have NO CLUE what the code is that I would need to use in order to accomplish what I want as it seems that WordPress uses a number of files to create a whole page(php and css files). That is why I wanted to find the file responsible for the setup of my “Homepage” so that all I needed to do was to copy and paste the code into a new theme and then tweak it a bit. I tried all of the PHP files that showed up in “Theme Editor”, but none of them did what I wanted it to do, so I have to assume that there is more than one file involved.

As I mentioned in my previos post, I couldn’t get my “Store” page to give me the format I wanted unless it also affected my “Homepage”. Trough some filddling around in “Genesis Thermes”, I eventually managed to accomplish what I set out to do by clicking the format icon I wanted. The downside is that I have NO IDEA what I did! When I tried to change the “Interesting Facts” page back to the same format as the “Homepage”, “Genesis” didn’t help me do it without affecting my “Store” page. So here I sit, thinking that if I am ever going to launch a campaign with this site, I may just have to forget about what I want to accomplish and just go ahead with creating traffic. The “What’s the Use” syndrome, although I hate to admit defeat!

I apologize for such a long post, but I hope I have made my problem clearer.
