In reply to: [Custom Permalinks] lastest update now crashing sitesI returned the site to 0.7.21 however its highlighted issues with the pages that were not there previously.. I had to re-asign new pages off the root directory to a subdirectory/category in order for them to work.
The original ones on the root prior to the update are working when I apply the old version of this plugin, but unable to create new pages to appear as if off the root, thus they only work as if in a subdirectory/category, which defeats the purpose of the plugin as wordpress already forces us to do this with posts, a page could be used but I migrate old sites from html to wordpress and we want to keep the extension thus pages are useless for this….
I dont know what the answer is for this plugin, I’m realizing it needs to go and i need to locate another one, but lets hope wordpress gets it act together and adds this ability built into the system as its been long overdue.

In reply to: [Custom Permalinks] lastest update now crashing sitesits not a bug its a complete disaster.. the site is now a total disaster, cannot even recover any of the urls, am now trying to quickly reset over 200 pages and do redirects.. but its impossible as the site is not following category v post names v anything.. possibly because all the urls were created around this plugin working..
recommend developers use a local host to develop and test plugins and not use the business community..

In reply to: WordPress 3.5 > where the option settings->media->upload_path gone !?yeap I am with you…
removing such a basic facility, just because someone decided they should is why the world is such a mess.. Just because you can doesnt mean you should..
I wasted 2 hours today trying to figure out what was going on..
they gave us some new things, and took other object away..
I do see logs that block other people, however these are usually because they have been looking for pages that dont exist, or are trying to obviously hack (more likely they are running programs)..
But you can adjust the parameters… The default allow 5 I think (dont quote me), but I think it allows up to 5 wrong attempts before it blocks that ip for a certain number of minutes, then they get another x amount and so forth.
But its all in the settings, just go over the settings… what I first started to use this plugin I simply created a dummy site on a subdomain and went over all the options and deliberately got myself blocked etc to see how it all worked..
I sware by this plugin, I leave almost all of these types of settings as default.. I have never had anyone every report a problem with being blocked.. usually its the scum that get blocked..
I have not seen any effect on seo at all…
You can white list your ip address.. I know I do the same when I am building a site as I have also been caught out and locked out of the site for periods of time.. white list under: Intrusion Detection
Hi..
I just noticed you mentioned on the other thread about getting a test account with namecheap..
I figure this problem wont be a major thing, and its easy enough to test and test until you see what causes the failure and what doesnt.. once you figure out what triggers the failure (or the issue with their scans) you might be able to alter your code to prevent it.. Well thats what I am hoping for..
At any rate this was the first time I have ever seen an issue with plugin, and in the end its not directly caused by it, but if you can overcome it then it would be awesome all round…
hi,
I have a resolution for the hosting issue with this plugin that I mentioned above… I am going to start another thread as I think it will be of use to others if they have hosting with NameCheap
And in addition to the above, once this occurs I cannot log back in, naturally because the .htaccess file is missing.. uploading a copy of the .htaccess file wont resolve the program..
I did another test with the blogs on namescheap and I get the same result..
It deletes the .htaccess file
it does place these two lines in the config file:
define( ‘BWPS_AWAY_MODE’, true );
define( ‘BWPS_FILECHECK’, true );Update:
I have 4 hosting accounts and many blogs….
I started slowly testing other blogs with other hosts, and they have been fine.. I have not updated all my blogs yet (I will be doing that this morning – one by one}
The 6 blogs that went down that I have now recovered are with the host “NamesCheap”
there does not seem to be an error recorded for the most part… however one of the blogs did record an error in the log file… So maybe this is a clue to what is occurring:
(please note I removed my blog info from the error message, but that info simply points to the plugin, so it should not be needed to understand the error}
[04-Dec-2012 03:05:15 UTC] PHP Warning: filetype() [function.filetype]: Lstat failed for (removed my blog info from here} /plugins/better-wp-security/inc/filecheck.php on line 492
thanks
My sites are all english, they are set to default:
define(‘WPLANG’, ”);
I have been able to fix all 6 of the sites affected by uploading a backup of my htaccess file and deleting the updated plugin from the plugin directory, and then uploading that directory from a backup I had of each one of my sites (lucky I only just did that last week)…
So now I have all my sites with version 3.4.4
I am unable to apply the upgrade as it deletes the htaccess file and installs the new plugin and then prevents me from being able to access the site.. and with the htaccess file gone its naturally creating a hole heap of other problems.
Even if I delete the plugin, download and install it, it still does not work..
It has been the best security plugin on the market but now it needs to be rolled back to the older version and redone again, as this update has obviously been rushed and is unsuccessful.
NO.. No my sites… Mine is English…
No HTACESS files exist after I attempted this, the config file looks fine..
