Able to find completed site on www.ads-software.com,
What URL would you use to access this?
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: MAMP Multisite ProblemOne does not generally change the Apache document root. Set it back to the default; htdocs.
You then access your sites with:
https://localhost:8888/wp
https://localhost:8888/wp2
… and so on.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire ??
Does the home page display? What’s the URL shown?
Can you access the WP Dashboard (log into the site)?
What is the URL shown when you hover over one of the menu items to go to another page?
A couple things:
– try it with localhost:8080 for the database host
– if you changed the port from 80 because Apache wouldn’t start, chances are really good it’s because you have Skype running or had started it before XAMPP. If that is the case, then open Skype and from the Skype menu bar select > Tools > Options > Advanced> Connections > uncheck the box “Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections” > Save
Then change Apache back to the default and try that.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: How do I install multiple and independent domain names? Is there an easy way to do this in Drupal?
Did you mean WordPress? You are on the WordPress forum ??
Yes, this can be easily set up with either.
– install domain.com as the primary domain of the hosting account and use the “one click” installer to install “whatever” on it.
– create a new folder in the root and name it
domain2
– use the “one click” installer to install “whatever” to the `domain2′ folder
– if your host is using a hosting control panel called cPanel (a brand name), use the Addon Domain option to point domain2.com to the `domain2′ folder
– use the menu options in domain.com to link to the appropriate pages in domain2.com
If you got to the Create a Configuration File screen and then the next one where you enter the values, then the server is set up properly.
Here’s the issue:
I enter my database name, userid, and password and leave localhost as it is,
Using XAMPP, these are the default values for the DATABASE connection:
Database Name: whatever you named it (no spaces)
User Name: root
Password: <empty> do not put ANYTHING in here
Database Host: localhost
Table Prefix: wp_ (leave as-is)
Try that ??
Did you originally have access to the HostGator cPanel, where you could have downloaded the site files as well as exported the database?
Did your original “admin control” (WP Dashboard) allow you to install plugins? That is, did you have Administrator privileges? If you did, and didn’t install an use a “backup” plugin of some nature, then your observations are correct: the site, as it was, is gone.
So you now have the domain with HG. Do you also have the hosting account? Then install WP and use the link you provided to copy and paste to rebuild the site.

In reply to: Move from local to liveYou will also require a domain name for your site. To make things less complicated, I would suggest getting that at the same place where you get your hosting.
There are a number of ways to copy your local site to the live site. Have a read through this:
https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress
A search with your fave search engine for “WordPress local to live” will return many tutorials and videos.
There are also plugins that “automate” the process. This is one that I have used (for testing):

In reply to: Word file not in CpanelLog in to your hosting control panel. Do you see any of the three items there?
Also, it would help a lot if we knew who your hosting company is so that we can determine what type of options they provide.

In reply to: Cant View My Theme, Only The Blog PageYou will find that what you describe is the default “layout” for a new WP install using the default WP theme; a blog.
If you want your WP site to be a “website”, that is, as you mention, with a Home, About, Contact, etc. page, then have a read through this to get started:

This applies to any theme, WP repository or commercial.

In reply to: Word file not in CpanelIn the Public_html file is only two files:
cgi-bin
index.htmlThat is exactly what I want to see in the public_html of a hosting account … “nothing” ?? Whatever ends up there, I put it there.
If your hosting account is indeed using cPanel, that is, you see it presented in this way somewhere (log in screen, etc.), then there should also be an “automatic” installer named either QuickInstall, Softalicious or Fantastico Deluxe or a combination thereof. Note that “cPanel” is a brand name for a specific hosting control panel software and should not be used as a contraction for “control panel” as they can be vastly different.
Using one of the auto installers is the easiest way to get WP onto your hosting account.

In reply to: Installing wordpress on godaddy hostingThe easiest way to install WP on a GD hosting plan (hopefully yours is Linux, as that is the preferred platform) is with the supplied “web application installer”.
– log into the hosting account cPanel
– click on the WordPress icon under Web Applications
– follow the instructions ??Forum: Installing WordPress
