Thanks, Josh. I did as you said and the version number is 4.1.20 – I am presuming this is something I need to take up with my hosting company?

I found another post that advised disabling the whole plug-in directory by renaming it and then creating a new plugin directory via ftp. That helped me get into the admin at least but my theme (Thesis 1.7 is giving all kinds of trouble. Bah. I wish I had just stayed with the old wp version I had.

Ok well I have to confess I somehow missed the bit about disabling plugins before using the automatic upgrade. Whacking myself on side of head now as site and admin both giving error messages. I added the code to my wp-config.php file as you suggested above.

On the admin log in page I get:

I am not a programmer and would appreciate any help. I tried manual upgrade after that automatic one failed but even I can see it’s soemthing to do with the damm plugins. How can I disable them or remove them without access to the admin? Is it possible to restore an older version of wordpress? Thanks.
