In reply to: [Yoast SEO] Yoast SEO Image issue with webp formatTo follow-up: is there a plan in place to support WebP now that WordPress supports it? I see that the referenced bug report is from a year and a half ago.
Until Yoast can insert OG:image for a WebP image, I am kinda between a rock and a hard place. Want to use WebP for the benefits, but also am very happy with Yoast. Anyone know a work-around for now until Yoast is updated? Thanks!

In reply to: [Disqus Recent Comments Widget] No Recent Comments FoundI apologize if that was inappropriate, but the very issue I asked about was addressed in this thread. It seems silly to clutter the main page with duplicative threads when the question I have is spot-on discussed in this thread.
Maybe it was unclear in my original comment, but I’m asking about the limit on API calls that is discussed in this very thread.

In reply to: [Disqus Recent Comments Widget] No Recent Comments FoundSo, if I’ve got a site (www.bleachernation.com) that sees thousands of page views every hour, am I out of luck on using this fantastic plugin/widget?
Is there any way to set it so that it only updates once every two minutes, or something like that?
For whatever it’s worth, this would be a highly-desirable feature, if it’s something that you could build into Jetpack comments in the future.
For example, on my site, if I allow guest comments, the place gets overrun by trolls. So, I have a registration requirement. But, man oh man, it would be awesome if folks also had the option instead to login via one of the social networks to comment. That way they get options, but I also avoid the problem of drive-by guest trolls.

In reply to: 3.9 Update Made Comments Really Really SlowGood call on the plugins: it’s Akismet. I just deactivated and confirmed.
I notice in the recent Akismet update, they now show in the comments dashboard how many “approved” comments a commenter has. That’s what’s slowing things down on our sites (because we’ve got a lot of comments for the system to go through and add up each time we load the dashboard).
Thankfully, there’s an option to turn that new setting off (just go to Akismet’s settings, and uncheck the box). Seems to have fixed my issue – fingers crossed.
Glad we could get together on this!

In reply to: 3.9 Update Made Comments Really Really SlowJohn – I started experiencing the same problem with the same WordPress update. (Ditto on everything – across all platforms, limited to edit-comments.php.)
I assumed it was a database issue, so I optimized and repaired, but that didn’t help.
May I ask what site you’re experiencing this on? Maybe we’ll notice similarities between our setups that could point to a solution (assuming someone helpful doesn’t clear things up in the interim).
My site is https://www.bleachernation.com (a Cubs blog). We get about 1000 or so new comments per day. The site is on a dedicated server with Dreamhost.

In reply to: Can’t Edit: Site Asking for Name and PasswordHad an archived copy of 2.7, replaced the root files, the wp-admin and the wp-includes …
problem solved. Not sure which was the offending file. Time to upgrade now.
Thanks for the help.

In reply to: Can’t Edit: Site Asking for Name and PasswordI’m an idiot – I’m using 2.7, not 2.8. I suppose that the principle of how to fix the problem is the same; but then I need to upgrade and fast.

In reply to: Can’t Edit: Site Asking for Name and PasswordI’m actually very happy to do an upgrade at the same time. So if I just do the normal upgrade, I can then comfortably replace whatever files might be affected, using the files from 2.8.2? Thanks.

In reply to: Can’t Edit: Site Asking for Name and PasswordI tried swapping out the theme, no luck. I tried deactivating plugins, no luck.
I’m using 2.8. Is the only solution overwriting all the root files? If so, I don’t know if I have a copy of 2.8.
I changed nothing prior to this happening – it came out of the blue.
BUT I did get a few very odd comments yesterday before it happened.

In reply to: Can’t Edit: Site Asking for Name and PasswordIt also happens when I try to publish a saved post. It seems to be associated with the post.php, but I can’t figure it out. I’m really freaked out.
