Done! However, I was logged in via the customer’s account, which means they are getting your response. I have let them know to forward those emails. I should probably resubmit the ticket with an account where the responses come directly to me.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Venue & Organizer Pull Down in events don’t work. Thanks folks. In the time since the original post I just decided to abandon trying to fix this issue and instead accelerate the development of the replacement for the site (the clone) which is working fine. I thought I could buy myself more development time by resolving what should be a simple issue, but without being able to change anything critical to the use of the site I had no other options.
Thanks for getting back.

In reply to: [Hide Title] Leaves residue.Ken,
I looked at your site to see if I’m getting the same thing you are/were and it looks like you figured out a solution. If accurate, can you share what you did as I am getting a similar issue when the Hide Title plug-in logic finds the the page title in a Twitter social link button.
Thank you.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Venue & Organizer Pull Down in events don’t work.Caroline,
I performed one more test this morning.
I renamed the current The Events Calendar folder in plug-ins on the live misbehaving server. Then I copied over from clone working server the entire directory. I cleared all my browser caches and tried from two different platforms and browsers. It made no difference.
As one last test I renamed the events calendar folder I have in my child theme and retested. No change other than the expected look & feel changes because of the missing CSS. I did not expect this to have any impact since I have previously changed themes numerously, but… what the heck. I’ve seen stranger things.
As a reminder, this was working perfectly for six months. I entered over 100 events, venues, organizers, and so forth all manually. For this drop-down menu to work properly are there any foundational components that are necessary and sit outside The Events Calendar folders, but might have become corrupted? Any pointers to make comparisons would be greatly appreciated. I’ve troubleshot a lot with little knowledge of WP.
I have an advantage of having a development clone that works great and I can FTP back and forth, comparing and or replacing files. I feel confident it is likely one file somewhere and if you can give me some suggestions what to compare it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Venue & Organizer Pull Down in events don’t work.Caroline,
Thank you for getting back to me. Sorry it took a few days to perform this test. I know we don’t want to keep support threads open any longer than necessary.
I performed the actions outlined in the Testing for conflicts article once again in Chrome. This time I performed all attempts to change the Venue or Organizer with a different platform and Safari browser. Although the theme, plug-ins, and cache were all removed from the scenario the problem still occurs.
Additionally, I made a completely new clone and tested there. Works fine. The only thing not cloned was the WP core.
So I went back to my live site and reinstalled 4.7.2. Tried tests again and still cannot get the pull-down menu for Venue and Organization. Using inspector in Chrome I think the action being called is unique to The Events Calendar.
I do not want to take any actions that might destroy all the data I have entered through The Events Calendar plug-in. Is there a way to simply go through and replace all the events calendar code with fresh code? I’m guessing something basic in the core of the events calendar is corrupted/missing and performing the regular updates is not hitting the core code, only patching what’s already broken. If that is even possible.
Thank you.
Mike
Thank you so much Jeremy.
So, then I just misunderstood the directions in the Jetpack Tips & Trick posts https://jetpack.com/2014/02/26/exclude-a-category-from-mobile-theme/ because it sounds like I’m supposed to add the code to my main theme “you can use the following code in your theme’s functions.php”. Although as you pointed out the mobile theme is unto itself.
So last question and then I will leave you alone. Is there a separate functions.php for the Jetpack Mobile Theme and that is where I needed to add the code if I were to follow those directions verbosely?
Thanks again!!!! I’m learning a lot.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Google Maps grey box with WooRockets WR-Elite themeOne more thing to add…
I have Child Theme Configurator installed and used it to create the child theme. I am comfortable adding pre-written PHP code to the child theme functions.php file or modifying other files either through the WP GUI or with outside text editors.
I just don’t know how to troubleshoot this to find the root cause. Then, what exactly should be done to resolve the root cause.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Mike
Caroline, you are awesome!!!! Thank you very much.
Ok, I used FTP and renamed the file. I flushed cache and reloaded. The menu works correctly now. Your hunch paid off.
Now, from a risk assessment standpoint, what did this do to my site everywhere else? Did I lose major functionality? Is this a library of routines used by a bunch of stuff? What would be a tell tale sign that this renamed/disabled file is causing other issues?
Thanks again for all your help.
Best regards,
Mike
Nico,
Thanks for your suggestion. I have finally found a theme where my custom HTML button bar didn’t overlap the menus so that I could click on them. Took me a while.
Indeed in another theme the Calendar menu created with a Custom Link changed to the default calendar page. That is not The Events Calendar calendar however. Just by switching between themes and refreshing the browser the URL went from what I want /events/ to /Calendar/ which I don’t, but at least clicking on the menu did go to the target page /calendar/.
That may be confusingly described. Sorry. In short, the WooRockets Elite theme is influencing the on-click outcome as near as I can tell. I’m not 100% convinced because the target URL changed when the Inkness theme was applied and the target URL became the built-in Calendar page, not The Events Calendar. Not sure why that changed.
With my limited knowledge of WordPress I’m guessing this is a PHP or JS thing. Probably something simple and stupid like the Custom Link feature is deactivated on-click. I have been Googling and I also downloaded the entire theme so I can search through the code for a switch or setting. Something set FALSE when it should be TRUE. Not sure if I am way off base.
Any help is appreciated. If you know which file controls the Custom Link I would like to know that. If you know how to turn on/off this Custom Link in the code, that would help.
I’ve posted another message to WooRockets but last time I was told that my question required theme customization.
Thank you in advance.
Mike
