If you have Analytics set up through Tag Manager and Tag Manager set up, you should be okay.

Here’s the article that I used to tie Google Optimize and Google Analytics into Google Tag Manager.

Gist of the link is to define the Tracking IDs of Optimize and Analytics as constant variables/use those variables wherever IDs are requested (instead of the IDs themselves).

So long as you have Tag Manager correctly installed on your site, anything you set up in Tag Manager (and push to the live site) is considered correctly installed in your site (pls correct me if I’m wrong).

Thank you for the clarification – I’d provide this in a review, but I can’t create a post yet – there might be a time limitation for new plugins

This might have more to do with the documentation: I was having a helluva time figuring out the proper configuration while using Tag Manager, Optimize, and Analytics. There definitely is documentation for a lot of configurations, but it wasn’t clear which I needed to focus on.

i.g. I thought that I was pretty solid when I put the Optimize and Analytics Tracking IDs as variables for Google Tag Manager, but then I saw instructions for other configurations with the gtag.js method. I didn’t know how to use the anti-flicker snippet until I stumbled on a line that said “put this ahead of Tag Manager”. I ultimately fell back to deciphering third party instructions.

…but having that problem is great. I’ve dipped into Tag Manager before – even setting up basic settings for a client site using it – but I wouldn’t have thought to review the settings or even look at Optimize. I’ve recently been struggling with setting up/justifying results of independent AB testing, and Optimize is perfect for what I need.

TL;DR: I can’t add a post or leave a review yet, but the Site Kit has already improved my experience with site config and analytics/performance review. Optimize (and the cool browser extension) opened my eyes to a better way to split test that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise.

I know that I’m honeymooning the shit out of this, but this is a game-changer.

I wasn’t looking for PRO support – I was looking for support for an event plugin that had a fatal error. If the free version doesn’t work, how would I be able to sell the plugin to clients? If I don’t have faith in your support of the MEC Lite plugin, how do I have faith in your support for any of your plugins? It’s been almost 2 weeks, and MEC support still doesn’t have documentation covering the issue.

Nothing changed in usage or installation. The MEC plugin screwed up, and with no response or documentation for an issue that MEC support knew about, it cost me and my client quite a bit of time to configure a replacement with the event data.

To recap: There was a fatal error with the MEC plugin. There was a post in this support forum outlining the issue and requesting assistance. The post was ignored by MEC support for a week before MEC support replied. MEC support replied another week later telling me to upgrade for better support.

You surely see how ridiculous your response is.

I see what you’re talking about. The version that caused this (v3.2.0) was released 10/1, and this post originated 10/2. Fixes were released 10/2 and 10/3. The version we were using couldn’t be automatically updated, so I’m assuming we were using v3.1.6.

The issues happened when the update had to be manually installed. Unfortunately, when documentation couldn’t be found, we had to chalk it up to being ignored. We restored the site from a backup, but ultimately decided to migrate to The Events Calendar plugin over concerns there wouldn’t be support or automatic updates for our version going forward.

I respect your diligence in providing the fix, but 6 days to provide feedback is bonkers and created unnecessary pains on our side.

I’ll still lean towards using MEC by default for other clients who need event features (I prefer MEC’s layouts and function), but this particular client made the call out of a concerns for the longevity of functionality and the ease of future site maintenance.

I appreciate the support response, but 6 days later is a bit late. I’ve already moved onto The Events Calendar plugin after losing my event and config data from this error.

Issues happen and can be fixed. This level of service/lack of communication is a choice.

Same here. Auto-update wasn’t allowed, and it kept throwing a fatal error when manually updated. Uninstalled/reinstalled – no luck. I had to revert to loading a backup to save the events and am transitioning to The Events Calendar plugin instead.
