I have deleted and reinstalled the plugin and it now works ok so I think there was an original install problem.
I have tried the test and this is the result:
There was a problem while sending the test email.

Hi Margaret
I think we have cracked this! I updated the php.ini to 512M and added the same into the config.php file and on checking now with WordFence Firewall everything worked. The Elementor edit panel appeared as it should and testing an edit and publishing that also worked and no 500 error appeared nor was anything displayed in the error log.
Thank you so much for your help with this. There was no entry in the config file to show what the WP memory limit was and I have to say I forgot it was set to such a low level by default. This is an old site going back to 2018 so maybe that accounts for the lack of data.
Thanks again.
Adrian
Hi Margaret
As requested I added the code to the config file and then carried out the procedure to reproduce the error. The debug.log I have sent using the alternative email address. Hopefully that might enable us to track this problem and find a resolution.

Adrian
Hi Margaret
Just to clarify the error occurs if Ultimate Addons for Elementor Pro is enabled with WordFence Firewall disabled or when Ultimate Addons for Elementor Pro is disabled and WordFence Firewall is enabled. Obviously if both are enabled the fault occurs.
I have sent the diagnostic report from WordFence Tools as requested and will access the hosting site to see if I can find the relevant PHP and any other error logs. I did notice that on the htaccess file I downloaded when setting up the plugin, there appears to be a line of out of date PHP code “AddHandler x-mapp-php5.5 .php” I think this should now be 8.2 and “AddHandler application/x-httpd-php8_2 .PHP” but there was a suggestion that with WordPress it might be slightly different. I don’t know if this really would have any effect?

Hi Margaret
Thanks for the follow up. I have sent an email with the Inspector errors listed.
In addition I have found the same error is reproduced when another plugin is activated that being “Ultimate Addons for Elementor Pro“. I had hoped that was the culprit but then realized I had WordFence firewall inactive and immediately I set that to Enabled and protecting the same issue reappeared. I tried in Learning mode and that had the same effect. With both plugins the initial issue is that the editing panel on the left fails to load correctly. It has a grey overlay and spinner operating as it tries to load fully. Sometimes it will if I move to a specific part of the page to edit but if that does happen then the publish error occurs and the 500 error note is displayed.
I hope maybe the data from the inspector may through some light on the situation.
Regards
AdrianHi Margaret
Many thanks for your suggested solution. I have tried this but it has no effect. WordFence had only recently been installed and had already had a 7 day learning mode. I am still finding the necessity to disable the plugin to allow Elementor to publish any updates or edits. I have found some data on the 500 error being reported and am contacting the hosting provider to see if that is the cause, but if you have any further suggestions please do let me know.
Thanks
Adrian

In reply to: [WooCommerce] WooCommerce and AIHi
Thanks for the responses and interest shown. I appreciate it. My main point really was to bring to your attention what was being done on other eCommerce platforms which may have been overlooked. AI is moving so rapidly these days that it is difficult to keep up with all the advances and I wanted to ensure that WooCommerce was at least aware of what other competitors had taken advantage of and were incorporating into their themes.
The ability to now be able to write a description of what is wanted on a webpage and have AI produce it and provide the code needed for implementation is quite amazing.
Thanks again

I thought that was what I was doing here, commenting but maybe this is just not the right forum to do so.
There is nothing wrong with the plugin it works fine and I have used it on sites I manage for years. My comment was related to Site Health, which is not a plugin but part of core now, and whether advertising a non-essential plugin upgrade is really what Site Health is designed for. If I see a Site Health warning on one of my sites I expect it to be an important issue that requires my attention and not an option to upgrade a plugin that has no importance or value.

In reply to: Site Health QuestionThat has been on my mind as an option. The negatives are that, 1. I have this plugin on a number of sites I manage so switching to something like Site Kit will involve some work. Having said that and looked at the code for both Site Kit seems to use a lot less so might be a better option for site speed. 2. Is that one of my concerns is that if WP are going to allow this (using site health as a sales/promotion/upgrade option) where will it end and how many other plugins will do the same.
Site Health is supposed to be a Tool pointing out items that can materially effect the sites operation and an upgrade to a plugin does not meet that criteria. It has no effect one way or the other on the way the site works or functions.

Hi James
I am sorry not to have responded as I very much appreciate the time and effort spent on this problem. Unfortunately, despite repeated requests I have not had any response from the site owner. I had asked to check the permissions given and to either upgrade them to full admin if not previously provided or, if that was not an option that the individual with permissions accessed the WP Dashboard and completed the configuration of Site Kit. Either way we would know what had gone wrong and why.
I suspect that as I added the code manually and they are seeing statistics they do not want to be bothered which for me is somewhat annoying as I would have liked to see a definitive conclusion, as I am sure you would also.
So, my apologies. Nothing I can do I regret to say without a response from the client. My suspicion is that the 2nd Google permission check is the error and should have stopped the process at that point. but maybe you can set up a test to verify this.
If I do ever get a response you can be sure I will update you here.
Kind regards
AdrianHi James
Thanks for the update on this.
I am still waiting for some details from the site owner. What I have been asking is whether they did provide full Admin rights, which is being ignored or whether they did not provide in which case the attempt to configure Analytics should have been stopped at the point where a second login to Google is requested to authorize analytics access and configuration.
Going back to this point “Furthermore, reviewing the inspector result, where the “insufficient permissions” displays immediately after activation, the fact that this does not stop the process is not a good situation.” What I was trying to point out was that on an initial attempt or after a reset an immediate error is displayed in inspector but that fails to stop the process and the plugin seems to enter an infinite loop and I was seeing the line going across the page ad infinitum until I hit Cancel. This then meant that I had to wait an hour before making a further attempt by just trying to “complete the setup” at which point the error message appears immediately saying the permissions were not adequate. That does appear to be a plugin bug as really the error should appear straightaway on the plugin not just in the console and the process should stop when the error exists. Hope that makes sense!
I will report back as soon as I hear anything from the site/GA owner.
Thanks for this latest information. As I think I mentioned previously I did not set up the original account and understood I had been given full permissions. Maybe not, although this does confuse me. When setting up Analytics Google does 2 checks, the first I assume is a general one that allows connection of the Site Kit plugin and then connections to Console, Tag Manager etc. but then for Analytics it states that a further authorization is required specifically for Analytics and I have to connect for a second time through my Google Account. I would have thought if my permissions were insufficient that should result in my not being able to proceed further with an attempt to configure Analytics. The fact that the plugin requires a second specific check on the Google account but then appears to allow me to proceed but then fails is a fault that needs to be rectified.
Furthermore, reviewing the inspector result, where the “insufficient permissions” displays immediately after activation, the fact that this does not stop the process is not a good situation. What it seems to create is what is known as an “infinite loop” where the cycle continues ad infinitum instead of stopping when the error occurs.
If indeed the situation is as you have now indicated it seems to me this plugin needs some work to immediately so that if permission does not exist you are told at that point and cannot even try to connect Analytics. Then, in the event of an error occurring, this is displayed and the process stops.
I am consulting with the owner of the site and the GA account and will report my findings.
