In reply to: Event Calendar 6.4 errorWhat are you supposed to do with all the code? I need something a little more explanatory. Any instructions with this?

In reply to: Blue default header still shows in backgroundAh, line 233….that was it! Thanks so much.
I had changed the background color earlier in the coding but didn’t notice a #header further down.
Thanks for taking the time. I appreciate it!

In reply to: Event Calendar PluginDid you find one? I’m also looking.

In reply to: Blue default header still shows in backgroundI’ve read through these instructions. However, my php is limited. I suspect that while I’ve changed the CSS, I haven’t made the necessary changes in the header code.
Am I correct on this?
If so, what do I change?
I didn’t even have an uploads folder in my wp-content folder. I had to create on and then change permission to 777. I never realized I’d have to become a coder to write my blog.

In reply to: image upload problem – parent directory writeableOK. If you stick to it long enough you can answer your own question.
I found this page helpful. But his instructions to right-click didn’t apply to my mac or ftp program, whatever. Instead, I selected the folder (which by the way I had to create because there was no uploads folder in this 2.5 version)and then went up to the ftp menu bar to Get Info.
In there was the option to change permissions from 755 to 777.
I did this also to the 2008 folder I created and the 06 folder. I now can upload images in the 2.5 version.

In reply to: image upload problem – parent directory writeableI’m not a coder by any means and don’t fully understand your instruction. Can you be more simplistic for dummies like me? ??
Do I change the ownership of my WordPress files in my wordpress file administration? Or do I do this within my computer (referring to “when safe mode is on”)
Is there a step-by-step instruction somewhere?

In reply to: WP 2.5 Images upload problemMy problem isn’t an upgrade – 2.5.1 is the first version I’ve installed. I have, however, done other blogs using 2.3 so it’s not like I’m a complete newbie.
And I’m still having image upload problems!!!
In my research, I came across these WordPress instructions:
“Prerequisite for Uploading Files:
In order to use all these tools, you have to change the chmod of wp-content folder to 777. If you have not changed permissions in order to write in wp-content folder, you will not be able to use the uploader. If you do not know how to change this value, please read Changing File Permissions.”What the heck is this? I can’t find any chmod in my wp-content folder. And if I do, do I change its name to 777? Can there be a little more explicit direction here?
Someone above said it right: This shouldn’t have to be so complicated. We’re not the coders here.

In reply to: Error establishing a database connection (Install)Did you ever figure out what to use as the host name? If so, what? I’m having the same problem.

In reply to: making changes on a themeThanks, drewactual, hit refresh did the trick.
To ronfrank: hang in there. Much of it was greek to me also, and I design websites! Blogging, themes, and such are related to web design, but also a whole new ball game. Like anything tech related, it starts to make sense as you work with it.
Your host is the company that “hosts” you on the internet. It’s the company you pay to have your domain and website online.
I keep my images in a folder on my computer. When I upload them into my wordpress blog, it stores them in a folder in ftp files, which in your case is Filezilla.
Filezilla is a file transfer program (ftp) and is your means of publishing to the web. It moves your files from the stored side (your computer) to the public internet side. It doesn’t necessarily relate to your host, unless this is the program your host company uses.
Hope I explained this correctly and understandably.

In reply to: making changes on a themeHow do you clean a cache?
I made changes to the default theme. All are successful except I cannot remove the justified text-alignment. I’ve changed it in two places to “left” and neither are showing up on my site.

In reply to: <rant> Attention Help SeekersLet me add another point:
7. Label your question with a descriptive subject. That means including words relative to the problem so later others with the same problem can search your question and answer.
“I need help ASAP” doesn’t help someone who’s searching for problems with widgets.

In reply to: Files are imported: Now what?OK, I’ll answer my own question. That’s always great when you can do that!
After further research and days of trying to load my imported posts, I read that images cannot be imported. What I thought was imported, really was not.
I went into my old blog and deleted the images, both from the posts and from the uploads. After doing that, the files came through fine.
