@bluegum , Yes, WordPress SQL Backup allows you to completely backup or export the whole database attached to WordPress. Version 6.0 includes WordPress File Backup too!, I discontinued WordPress File Backup and merged it with WordPress SQL Backup. both completely backup your WordPress blog including posts, pages, comments, settings and uploads, themes and plugins. I wanted to use layman’s terms and allow people to easily backup their website without knowing what goes on behind the scenes, but since your wondering here it is:

1. When you activate the plugin the settings are registered through WordPress and you are prompted to configure it.
2. When you go to “Backup Site” in the dashboard menu, there is a big link that says “Generate Backup” When you click that it uses either exec, system or passthru to ask the server to generate a backup of the database using the details mentioned in the file wp-config.php .
3. The file created is stored in /alex-backups/ with a random file name that is saved, and you can choose to download or email this backup to yourself. additionally an “index.php” file is automatically placed in /alex-backups/ to throw out the possibility of directory browsing if it is enabled. the plugin “https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wordpress-file-backup/”(also authored by me) works exactly the same way except it creates a compressed version of your /wp-content/ directory.

The new version allows you to use an alternative if available, just go and update to 5.0 .

I’m going to spend the night working on a fix, I’ll post back when it is complete.

You are one of a group of people who’s hosts have the “exec()” command disabled. This command sends commands directly to the server. If I were you I would talk to your host about enabling it. Are you on shared hosting like GodDaddy or HostGator?

Thanks for replying, I had a feeling that it wasn’t SVN because I had your idea and went to https://plugins.svn.www.ads-software.com/PLUGINNAME and it was immediately updated. Thanks for the explanation

There!, I have fixed and released a patch, please update to the latest version of the plugin.
