No, I didn’t have the ‘Allow link submission with empty link’ set. In fact, it didn’t accept the submission, the problem was that control went back to the main links page before the error message was displayed.

But the good news is that both problems have now gone away, now that you are using jQuery to validate the input. Error message ‘required field’ now appears alongside any required field that has been left empty.

    Thanks for fixing this.

I’m experiencing one issue with the broken link checker. The report included a set of blank links at the head of the report, each with the error 403:

    : Error 403

I think it is finding some remnants of deleted links and checking these too. To verify my suspicion, I counted the number of blanks at the top of the report, then deleted another link and, sure enough, the number of blank error reports increased by one.

Many thanks for such prompt action.

There’s an issue with the WordPress Link Library plugin page; it still reports that 5.9.10.4 is the most up to date version, despite info in the Changelog about the update to 5.9.11. This meant I wasn’t able to update directly from the plugin page. But I downloaded the zip file to my PC and installed it via FTP and your modifications to the Reciprocal Link checking page appeared.

Tried out the modified Reciprocal Link Checker and your new Broken Link checker and both worked for me. Success!

My WordPress dashboard, however, is still reporting that I have version 5.9.10.4 installed.

Delighted with this plugin and your prompt response, so have made a modest donation.

Did you notice my queries about the User Submission form? I added them into my previous query ( a week ago) about the Search form (which was probably a mistake on my part) but there has been no response from you. Should I log these questions in a separate thread?

Oh dear, I think I may have identified the problem. Looking in my debug.log file, I found I was getting the error message

wrapper is disabled in the server configuration by allow_url_fopen=0

Further Googling of this error, indicates that this is dependent on a PHP setting which only the server administrator can alter. Assuming that my host (Namesco) has deliberately disabled this option, it looks like I won’t be able to use the Reciprocal Link Checker within your plugin.

    Any other ideas?

I can’t seem to get this to work. I tried adding reciprocal links, as you suggest, to a few of my links but when I try the Reciprocal Link Checker, I get the message ‘Website unreachable’ for all the links for which I have added the reciprocal link field, even though I have checked that they are all valid, working links.

I wasn’t sure what to put in the search string field of the Reciprocal Link Checker, since I’m not actually looking for reciprocal links.

If I leave this field completely blank, then I get no error messages at all – not even for a link that I have planted deliberately as a broken link. But, if I put text into this field, I get the ‘Website unreachable’ message for every link that has a reciprocal link field, regardless of whether the link is good or broken.

    What am I doing wrong?

I have now encountered two problems with the User submission form which I have put on a separate page from the main links page.

The first problem is similar to the problem (now fixed) with the search results. If the user submits a form with the web link field missing, then the browser returns to the main links page and displays the error message about the missing web link on that page, instead of remaining on the form page.

For other missing required fields, such as the captcha code, submitter name and email, all is ok – the browser remains on the form page with the error message displayed at the top of the form.

But (and this is the second problem) if the user leaves the Link Name field blank, the submission is (correctly) not accepted and the browser remains on the form page BUT no error message is displayed to alert the user to the problem.

Thanks for that. It is now working as it should.

Is that because I have purchased the Pro version? The free version is definitely in the official repository – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/visual-form-builder/

Me too. I have just installed the free version to try it out and there’s no sign of the “Project TAB”. The plugin is useless without projects to enable document sharing. What’s going on?

I have the same problem as described by others above. I cannot find any SSL folder on my server. Where do I put the p12 file?

That document was just a test example. It happens to all .doc and .docx files. If you re-try the links I give above, you’ll see it happening to a .doc file.

The real web site ( https://www.pushingouttheboat.co.uk )provides an online interface for authors to submit entries for the next edition of our magazine. They must be submitted in Word format so they can be edited later, if selected for publication. The GDE viewer is used to enable the selection panel members to view the entries anonymously. We don’t want them to be able to download the files as they often contain the author’s identity in the Word file properties.

So, although I can tell the panel members that they should use reload when they hit the bandwidth problem, the fact that the error message offers up a download option which works will be too tempting for some people to avoid.

Converting all the files (there will ultimately be several hundred) to PDF would be a time-consuming process as we would have to download each entry to a PC, convert it to PDF, and then upload the PDF version.

I’m currently searching for utility that might enable me to convert Word to PDF on the server.

I periodically get the same error messages as spinfly:

[09-Jul-2014 14:38:01 UTC] PHP Warning: stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to https://browscap.org/version (Unable to find the socket transport "http" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP?) in /content/sites2/p/u/pushingouttheboat.co.uk/web/wp-content/plugins/php-browser-detection/lib/Browscap.php on line 1026

Would be grateful for a fix.

Spoke too soon. (Always a mistake to work after midnight ?? )
Editor now deleting rather than saving the announcement. Have had to revert to the original code until I get some help from the plugin author.

Eureka! I have found the error.

    File wp-content/plugins/announcer/admin/edit-single.php
    line 54
    <?php wp_editor( $att[‘content’], ‘atts[content]’, array( ‘wpautop’=> false, ‘textarea_rows’=> 5 )); ?>

The error is in the second argument to the function wp_editor.
The version of TinyMCE used by WordPress 3.9 does not permit this argument to contain square brackets.

I fixed it by editing ‘atts[content]’ to ‘attscontent’ and the Visual editor now appears.

Hopefully, the author of this plugin will read this and implement a bug fix.

This is a real nuisance for me. Has anyone got any ideas how to fix it?
