Activating Akismet is as simple as it guess. It comes with the new installation and waits to be activated. After it is activated it asks for the API. This is about as easy as it gets.

With this in mind, maybe I need to restate the question.

How do I deactivate a plugin that is not showing in my plugins list? I recently installed a plugin and the list of plugins is no longer the same. One is missing and the one I installed is not listed. The only plugins showing are Hello Dolly and Jetpack.

Do you mean there is a folder called wp_sites at my domain or mysql. There isn’t a folder or subfolder at my hosting domain site called wp_sites.

Great. That worked. As I see it, the problem I ran into was that after I initiated the multisite switch in wp-config, I then went and followed the directions under “network setup” that WP sent me before the super admin was created. The directions there said to place htaccess at about 5 subfolders deep into the home directory. This seems to have been the wrong place. As a followup closing question, is there anyplace (folder or file) that I can goto and see an indication of the site that was created. I realize the address is virtual; however,the information that is entered into the site is not. It must be stored in some fashion in a file/folder and at some location at my hosting site. Is there something or some place I can go and see the newly established site at the file/folder level?

I have checked a couple of times and I think the htaccess matches what WP network setup generated and what is in the codex post. From what I read I would not be suprised if it is a htaccess problem. I think I may have the code right, I will check it again. But, I think the htaccess file may be in the wrong subfolder. WP generated code when I checked my network setup menu. It told me to place it in the directory I mention in my first posting. This subfolder is buried fairly deep beneath many other subfolders.

Where does the htaccess file belong? Should there be mulitple copies? Are there different versions of htaccess depending which subfolder it is in?

A little more information to add to the above.

There may be an issue with the directory structure within the installation. Unless the path shown in the browser’s address bar is virtual or unrelated to the directory structure within my domain, I do not see subdirectories at my domain that match the browser’s address bar. I could tell this by looking at my domain using my FTP file transfer program.
