I have found that turn input format from classic editor into gutenberg paragraph block has effect which is more likely ECAE works best with gutenberg paragraph block.
Turn format text from this (classic editor):

into this (gutenberg paragrah block):
https://prnt.sc/pu0m7i

The result is read more is shown and ECAE looks more stable.
So make sure your articles is in gutenberg paragraph block.

Yes, You are correct. It is because ECAE will be ignored if in a post there is a manual break (WP read more tag). So instead of using ECAE excerpt, it will use WP read more tag.

I have tried to copy a content from your website (https://sftblog.staging.wpengine.com/cts-new-zealand-welcomes-drew-chicone-as-a-us-ambassador/) to my localhost and make a new post with the content exactly the same and it is normally excerpted. So try to make a new post with same content and see do you get normally excerpted as I get.

We have not tested it yet, but basically ECAE will work if the exceprt is generated by WordPress default method (by using the_content() or the_excerpt() function). If excerpt is not generated by both of them so ECAE will not work.

Oh I see now.
Sure you can make excerpt text itself clickable by using that code.
Just put that code into functions.php on your theme. But make sure your theme use the_excerpt methode to output its exceprt.

What do you mean with excerpt clickable? It has already had read more button which is clickable to its single post.

Have you tried to disable it on the frontpage via setting? We provide setting to disable excerpt on certain pages.
