I did, of sorts. The site was running the WP Bruiser plugin.
The problem was that the spammers were utilizing wp-admin’s ajax functionality through MailPoet’s software … I don’t believe the Captcha, reCaptcha, or invisible Captcha was going to do much in that scenario.
I didn’t even have a form on the site. Just the plugin active was all they needed to get “in”.
Changing to MailPoet 3 alone did not fix the issue on my client’s site. And in the case of my client, asking for a Captcha on a newsletter form just would not work – too ugly.
So for now, they’re doing without a newsletter signup until we can come up with a better solution.
Again, I really hope the developers fix this!
I still had a spammer flood my client’s site yesterday and today. I have completely disabled MailPoet on that site and will see if that resolves the issue. If not, I’ll be forced to move all my clients’ sites away from this plugin.
Most unfortunate as all the other improvements in MP 3 are really impressive! But the bottom line is I can’t have spammers hijacking my clients’ site resources.

In reply to: [Easy Appointments] Take the money and runNothing that was posted above by Nikola is factually accurate. Paypal has reached out to him to explain how he could release the refund … he refused to do so. This is merely a stall and trying to put the “best face” on being called out for what he does.
Be careful about doing business with this guy. IF he ever actually does the right thing and follows through with the refund, I will certainly post that fact here.
I believe it was a permissions issue – related to the goofy php handler which was running on the new VPS. When things got normalized (as a result of checking in to the permissions issue), it all seemed to clear itself up.
Tnanks again for getting me on the same track.
Problem resolved – thanks for your time and expertise!
Thanks Trav –
I look forward to more from Andrew!

Thanks Trav – I did manage to disable the plugin … my hope was to get this plugin to work without throwing warning messages. Maybe someone from the plugin’s dev group could respond????
Thanks for the info Jason – none of that info was apparent through your site, so it looked like an “all or nearly nothing” proposition – I get why you don’t tell people “get it free here” … still, it was pretty frustrating just trying to get up to speed with basic functionality. I really couldn’t see $200 per year for what this is used to do in my situation – but $100 for a reasonable support experience for the first year could be considered “worth it”.

It is completely ridiculous to expect someone to click on that X every time a page loads on the admin side. It keeps coming back on every page load regardless of how many times I click on the X!
