  • I was so excited to get this functionality back and, frankly, am aghast that anyone would think this is not essential to an editor. However, the em-dash is (for our use) the most important symbol missing and it’s not in this plugin either. Using work-arounds like the “transformations” is okay, but not optimal. We can’t account for how those entries will format with partners and such and would prefer that the raw data have an em-dash in it. Please add the em-dash to this useful plugin.

In wp-admin > Settings > Media my thumbs are set to 150×150.

Not sure what the theme calls for.

As noted, in the Uploads I saw the file that was 150×150.

Still confusing why JUST that one picture somehow didn’t follow the path of every other one before it. Even more confused now as to why every thumb was 100×100 when nothing appears to have been set that way. Something odd happened for sure so I suspect there’s a bug somewhere, but wish I knew more to help. I didn’t even want to attempt to fix it so that we could troubleshoot it, but tripped over the “fix”.

I have a vague recollection of, years back when we first started using the plugin, that I tried different thumb sizes and may have ended on 100×100, but I have no idea how I could have done that if your interface wasn’t allowing for that size option.

A correction or two to this:

All my thumbs were actually set to 100×100 (Inspected). I typed 150×150 above as when I checked the widget settings RPT was set to 150×150. Huh? That was confusing. I looked in the widget and there was no option for 100×100 so I have no idea how they got to that size. I then just unselected 150×150 and then reselected it and saved and it worked just fine fixing my issue.

Did the widget used to support 100×100? There’s an “Admin Thumbnail” of 100×100, but I’m not at all clear on what that distinction means. Why Admin?

    Thanks.

Sure. I’ll include several here for you to consider. Remember that what I will show you was not a problem with the previous widget that has now been orphaned, so it wasn’t a custom post coding issue on our end.

Main Widget Page (note the use of several Related Post widgets):
    https://pcserenity.com/graphics/CustomSidebars/MainSidebar.jpg

A shot of the settings for one of those Related Post widgets:
    https://pcserenity.com/graphics/CustomSidebars/CustomPostTypeSet-MovieReview.jpg

Example of the sidebar in the correct context. This is where these widgets should appear:
    https://pcserenity.com/graphics/CustomSidebars/SidebarinContext.jpg

Correct Sidebar when the page is showing all standard Category = Movies (Note, none of the Related Post Type widgets appearing:
    https://pcserenity.com/graphics/CustomSidebars/CorrectSidebar.jpg

Incorrect Sidebar. This is like the above page but shows a listing of all our Movie Reviews sorted by most recent. They are all custom post type “movie-review”, but this PAGE is NOT and the other plugins didn’t somehow make this assumption even though the URL has “Movie-Review” in it. There should be no sidebars here:

Thanks. Let me know if you need anything else.

Other plugins pull this off with ease. I’d prefer to use this one as it’s also built into our theme.

    Thanks for the response:

    1. Each post gets Genre tags that come into play. Those number from 1 to perhaps a max of 5. Average would be 3. Then it also gets Plot Keywords added. In the past these ranged from 3-8 from a total of over 2,000 (thus our desire to standardize) with maybe 5 being average. So, each post would have an average of 8 total terms.

    2. There are literally thousands of posts with hundreds added each year to the total.

    3. I’m not sure we’re on the same page with my last request on randomizing. My number of “100” was just an example, not any sort of hard limit. I’m simply giving the example of a case where a given post happens to match 100 (could be 200, 128, 12, 422, etc.) Obviously we only display a few matches (generally 6).

IF Post 12345’s terms find 130 matches, I THINK it makes the best sense for users to not just always see the same 6 each time, but instead allow a means for them to have the potential to see all 130, just 6 at a time. Thus, randomizing the output seems the best approach to my mind. Make sense, or is there a better way to go?

    Thanks again.

Perhaps I’m simply doing a terrible job explaining this. Here’s a textual example from my current GA DASHBOARD as provided by you:

    Yesterday v Pages v

(graphical tree area for Channels, Organic/Direct/Referral

    ___________ Pages _____________|__ Sessions __
The Fate of the Furious Review | #####
The Lost City of Z Review
    The Promise Review
The Fate of the Furious Review
    Their Finest Reviews

That’s just a quick example of how it “looks” today (I didn’t finish it due to spacing and such that would throw it all off).

All I’m looking for is the ability to somehow see who wrote the first review of “The Fate of the Furious” and who wrote the second one to know which one is doing what numbers.

So, if the entries could simply provide a mouse-over URL or help text of the URL I can then quickly find out who wrote that one without going to Google. Better would be the ability to click the link, but you’ve already noted that this would be problematic.

An option that would work great for me, but would not likely help others would be to show me who those authors are as an option (mouse-over the first one and help text says “Author: Rich Heimlich”, etc.)

In our example I never see pages like those you describe in your example.

Does that help explain it better? I can also chat via Skype if it would help.

What about a simple tool-tip on hover?

    And thanks for the effort!

Can you provide steps to display the URL?

I can’t find that field as an option. I see many others like all the social networks, but not URL.

For display on the profiles I ended up having to create a custom field which is essentially now a duplicate of the URL field already built into the default WP User Account Profile.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks.

Thanks. Much appreciated, but is there a way to display the URL?

Would that be provided by the User Tags extension?

I’d be willing to pay a fee to have this functionality added…. What I see that we really need is a Bio EXCERPT. That way the directory can show the excerpt and prompt viewers to click the full thing. This will also keep all the profiles nicely uniform in the directory.

We really like this product, but need to hear back….

Would it be possible to eliminate that entire bar from displaying? I can likely CSS it out, but it would be great to have built-in support to hide this. Our site is just a member bio repository. The members will never have posts or comments.

Wanted to clarify something in case it’s important.

Here’s a typical process. We grab our movie posters from an official site. Take the case of the new film Passengers. Ultimately we’d want this image to end up being named “passengers-movie-poster.png” (after we add it to a post).

The file’s URL-based name that we use to upload is “passengers_xlg”. MFR changes its name to passengers_xlg[1]. In the post we then give it a title and it appears you then change the name. So then won’t that create a re-direct and thus we’ll end up with a huge list of re-directs?

    Sorry for the ignorance.

How can I share that with you to best help? We mainly do use the visual editor these days. HTML just gets in the way. Here’s one:

<a href="https://slashcomment.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/la-la-land-movie-poster.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-28400" title="La La Land Movie Poster" src="https://slashcomment.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/la-la-land-movie-poster-202x300.jpg" alt="La La Land Movie Poster" width="202" height="300" /></a>An aspiring actress and an ambitious musician share an unlikely love affair in <em><strong>La La Land</strong></em>.

Mia (<strong>Emma Stone</strong>) and Sebastian (<strong>Ryan Gosling</strong>) are two Los Angeles strangers with a date etched onto Cupid's calendar. She spends her days running between countless auditions and making ends meet working at a Hollywood studio coffee shop. He's obsessed with jazz in every facet of his life, and he plans to run his own club one day. For now, he'll have to make do as the pianist at a quiet restaurant where they don't play jazz. As far as Sebastian's concerned, it's just another opportunity to convince them all of the magic they're missing out on.

It's not like the lives of a pianist and part-time barista share much in common, but no matter where they find themselves, the other is inevitably there. Cupid's never been one to let proximity in location or life stand in the way. It's a star-crossed relationship that will have to endure over their own lifelong dreams, and that's a compromise that neither appears ready to make.

    [rating-chart]

Director <strong>Damien Chazelle</strong> is clearly a jazz junkie. His first film, 2010's <em><strong>Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench</strong></em>, is about a jazz trumpeter. He broke through with his sophomore effort <a href="https://slashcomment.com/movie-reviews/whiplash-review/"><em><strong>Whiplash</strong></em></a>. That 2014 masterpiece focuses on the challenges of a young jazz drummer. This time around, the male lead is a jazz pianist. Perhaps his next film will woo us with the travails of a struggling young jazz cellist?

For all its hype, Chazelle's latest film is a far cry from the polished gem of his previous effort. On the plus side, Gosling and Stone fit one another like well-worn gloves. They've had a lot of practice because it's the third time that they've been paired as on-screen lovers. The über-talented <strong>John Legend</strong> shows up, and his marvelous singing performance is the least memorable thing about his remarkable role.

Yes, the leads are beautiful. Yes, the camera work is exceptional. Yes, there's some great music. Yes, the choreography is the best in recent memory. That's all well and good, but there's also the inescapable fact that everything in this film feels incomplete. It's a comedy without any laughs, a drama with little tension, a musical with less than a handful of (mostly forgettable) songs and a romance that isn't all that romantic. It's the kind of film where the story shouldn't matter (think <em><strong><a href="https://slashcomment.com/movie-reviews/mamma-mia-review/">Mamma Mia</a>!</strong></em>), but it drags along while still somehow managing to never say all that much. This feels like a trip to a renowned ice cream parlor where you're told that they're out of everything but vanilla. Sure, it's the best vanilla in town, but I really had my heart set on pistachio.

    <a href="https://slashcomment.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/la-la-land-movie-shot.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-28398" title="La La Land Movie Shot" src="https://slashcomment.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/la-la-land-movie-shot.jpg" alt="La La Land Movie Shot" width="752" height="395" /></a>

You’ll see one shortcode we use for someting unique on our site, rating charts for the films. That’s the only thing I can think of that’s out of the norm.
