On looking back, I never changed the plugin folder name, ‘_wordfence’. Changing it back to ‘wordfence’ produces the same previous error. Are there any downsides to having the ‘_’ in the name?
For me, I installed the new version of WF. It would produce the same error. When I added an underscore to the plugin folder name (ex. ‘_wordfence’), it deactivated WF. I added a new user. Saved my old admin account, changed WF back to the original folder name and reactivated and it seemed to work.
Not sure why but it worked.
I was also able to install WF 6.0.25. But as soon as the auto-update kicked in, the problem came back.
I have two multisite installations and they both produce the error message. I have a single installation and it updated just fine. I will say it occurred when WF was automatically updated from the previous version. I removed WF from the multisite installation, replaced with a fresh copy of WF and it produced the same error.
Hope that helps.
Hey Matt,
I am on a multisite installation. No other role changing plugins for me.
Thanks,

Same issue. Can’t seem to access the dashboard without deactivating WF.
Any thoughts?
