You should check your server PHP Version. Is it older than 5.1. Because w3 total cache is made for newer version of PHP. You can check it thorugh

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

and save it on your server as info.php

You should now delete w3 total cache through FTP to get rid from blank screen.

After installing w3 total cache, go to

Performance >> Minify on left side bar and apply the setting what you want.

As where i know it depends on your Hosting Provider, your htaccess file setting.

I have done 2 things.

1) Choose good hosting company like i have (Aka Dreamhost)
2) Add some coding in .htaccess file like i have used w3total cache to do this automatically.
