quick update:
sorry, testing multiple use cases right now.
Apparently, only the first image of the list can be removed.
SOLUTION:
* remove the image from the slideshow
* update page/post
* go back to all pages
* enter again edit page
* remove another image
* and so on…
hope it can be useful for a quick fix
