I am having the same problem.
Gravitar info not loading into production site in Google Compute Engine. But, it works great with identical files in the development and staging servers hosted elsewhere.

Can anyone provide a clue or a hint or a guess?

I changed the name of the folder as per above. NOPE. Site won’t work at all then. Use PHP database and remove entries from “active plugins”. Then you can log in and activate your other plugins and take this one out. It caused me huge nightmare and was configured correctly. The reCaptcha just kept telling me that I had it wrong. Dozens of times. What the heck!!!!!!!!!
