Thank you! I was concerned that the version number for this was the same as what I already had loaded (not sure how it is a “dev” version), but reinstalling it did the trick.

    Most appreciated!

    Thank you for this information.
FYI – I am finding 10web on several of the sites that I assist with. Different (unrelated) sites on a couple different hosting providers. None of the 10web “takeovers” were loaded by me (the only administrator) on any of the sites. There is no plugin to be removed.

I will take appropriate measures to prevent further infections, but have no idea how to remove what is already on each site. More reading and searching will be involved, I’m sure.

Thank you for that advice. In my search for an answer, it was brought up about WP making changes to the block editor that could cause this. I am trying to find out, for sure.

It still works for me in 5.9 (have used it for some time now). The problem is that making any adjustment to a post will cause the checkmark to disappear and the title appears. (This behavior was seen before 5.9.)

This has been a most welcome addition to my toolkit, just wish it didn’t require constant checking to see if it is active or not.

OK. The best I can figure from reading code (thanks for the trip down memory lane):
    1. There must be a theme. As I can delete all but one of the themes, I take this to be true. (i.e., there must be at least one theme, and it doesn’t matter which one it is.)
    2. Since there is a theme, then there must be an active index.php in the theme directory.
(Amazing the number of “index.hp” there are that say “silence is golden”.
    3. Between the index.php and the associated style.css, there is a basic structure and as the different posts are read, sorted, assigned and then displayed – a “formatted page” develops.

So, with all the information read (thanks folks), it seems the key is the basic format is hidden in the theme areas in the form of index.php.

    Thanks for your help.

Before I asked, I created a brand new – basic as it can get-site. (WP 5.4.1, with NO theme or anything else added.) Exiting from the admin page, then accessing the site – I see the “Hello World!” post along with sections marked “Archives”, “Recent Posts”, “Recent Comments”, “Categories”, and “Meta”. There is a header with the name of the site (“Testing”) and a tagline of “Just another WordPress site”. A search icon is on the far right of the header. A footer contains a Copyright statement, “Powered by WordPress” and “To the Top”.

Since I have no theme, nor have I loaded a single item of any kind, it is my observation that somewhere in the system this is all “built in”. I’m trying to learn and understand this all. (After so many years of being told and me following “just do it this way”, I’m moving into a “this is how and why” stance.)

Thanks for the leads on where to look. I’m reading as fast as I can. ??

An interesting thought. Thanks for bringing it forward.

When looking at the “big picture”, there are 8 different sites using the same XAMPP instance. Only one of them is having this symptom. I’m thinking that if it were in the php.ini file then it would affect all 8 of them since the php.ini file is common to all. At this time it is only the one. Then again, I may be wrong about it being common. I’ll double check.

On the hosted site (Bluehost), things are just fine. On the XAMPP site (local) it shows up. Both sites are running the same version of php (7.3).

    This has been fixed.

The problem was the fact that both the “WordPress Address (URL)” and “Site Address (URL)” needed to be set to the domain name used to access the site, and not the actual directory and master domain that the site was physically under.

A good lesson to be sure.

    I just checked…

Once you arrive at “home”, choose another page, then return to home, the URL for home also says, “https://mymasteraccount.net/gardenclub/home”.

Thanks again for any guidance you can share.

Thank you. That is what I thought, and the confirmation I needed. It may lead to a possible work-a-round.

Yep, I mean “intense”! I’ve had complete graduate school courses that didn’t have this much content. ??

It is going to take awhile to figure out all the different things you have built into it, and how to use them to our advantage.

And yes, I am looking for a way to put the content of a pdf directly into a post or on a page without having to convert, reformat, etc.

So far the Google Docs embed route is leading in ability to do this, but it is not ideal.

    Kevin,
On the site davistribe.org/gde/notes/ it is stated under “The viewer loads my document(s)very slowly” … “each page is being individually rendered as an image.”

Interesting. Do you know what type of image?
(I figure if anyone would know, it would be you!)
    ??

    Thanks Kevin.

Since one of the sites will not have internet access, I must then go on to another plugin. This is unfortunate because the comments and documentation lead me to believe this was exactly what I was looking for.

“Sorry, we were unable to find the document at the original source. Verify that the document still exists. You can also try to download the original document by clicking here.”

I have tried everything I can think of, and some that someone else has thought of, yet “no cigar”.

IE 11.0.9600.16521, Firefox 28.0, Chrome 33.0.1750.154 m. All give the same error message.

Note that clicking on “here” brings up the .pdf.

Any and all input on this is appreciated. This plugin looks to be exactly what we need, once it is working.

Shortcode the program put into the post…

    [gview file=”https://localhost/library/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Minutes-120913.pdf”%5D

This IS the location of the document.

I too do not understand this placement of code.

An example, with specifics, would go a long way toward understanding – especially for those of us who are very new.
