just homepage showing this problem or all Categories?

Dear OB,
i cleared you that you have to separately installation of wordpress for each subdomain & sub directory.

and there is no any problem in installation more than one.

anything more ?

for this purpose you can go to Appearance then customize and then choose Static Page as homepage.
you have to customize a specific homepage to use there.

Take it easy bro, you have to install separate installation for each subdomain (Subsite) and also for sub domain:
Just like that :

sub.mydomain.com
mydomain.com/sub

for both ways you have to intall separately and there is no any problem, you can use more than one subsites and its depends on your hosting servers.
