In reply to: Why is my comments closed in all posts – open in all pages…!??No, this is not the problem others are having. That is a specified setting. What we have dealt with is a seemingly random closing of ALL comments no matter the age.

In reply to: Comments Closed on All Posts Over 6 Days Old on TWO blogsHaven’t encountered this blog in months. Just got back from vacation and realized two of my blogs were closed off again.
Freak. Someone acknowledge this problem!
I see, thanks for the clarification.
I’m not really sure what you’re presenting here, patrickq. While the hidden options has been around for a while, this doesn’t resolve the problem if I read your post correctly.
(1) There is no “discussion” checkbox (you said, “Select the Discussion and Comments boxes, along with any others you wish to see displayed. Now close ‘Screen Options’) in 3.1.1 or in 3.0.4 (the two I checked).
(2) In the example above you are editing a PARTICULAR post, not some universal post setting. (“click the Edit button for a post that you wish to adjust to allow comments.”)
(3) The “universal setting” is set here /wp-admin/options-discussion.php, but it only applies to new posts. It doesn’t go back and reset OLD ones. THAT is the problem. If all old posts have reset to closed, changing them all (either individually or in batches) is a nightmare if you have even a few dozen posts, if you have to do it regularly.
The only reasonably easy fix I’ve seen — after WP has crapped out — is to use the Extended Comment Options plugin to open all comments at once. A feature WP should have built in.

In reply to: Comments Closed on All Posts Over 6 Days Old on TWO blogsIt hasn’t hit me in a while, but when it does it’s a terrible pain. Hope someone resolves it since none of the higher powers have noticed. :/
Can anyone help with this?

As for plugins from you list that have been in use other times:

In reply to: Comments Closed on All Posts Over 6 Days Old on TWO blogsAs I said, I have had the issues occur with plugins and with no plugins at all (even Akismet disabled). I’ve had it with the Thesis theme and with the default theme. I’ve had it occur (once) when I was posting a comment from the admin area, but more often than not when there was no site activity other than visitors reading the site.
The plugin you refer to reverts the erroneous settings, but does not keep them from occurring again.

In reply to: Comments Closed on All Posts Over 6 Days Old on TWO blogstico007, I just checked the link you sent. Not sure how this relates. This is the CommenLuv creator, but he’s just saying that he created a DIFFERENT plugin to auto close old posts on blogs that are on HIS network. (You can have a CommentLuv blog on his server if you are a registered CommentLuv user.)
This has nothing to do with any of my blogs — or most blogs. Unless I misunderstood you?

In reply to: Comments Closed on All Posts Over 6 Days Old on TWO blogsMormon Momma didn’t used to have this problem, but I disabled ALL plugins on ALL the other blogs and the bug still occurred.
If you read the first comment in this thread you’ll see that.
Right now I’m having this problem ONLY on MormonMomma, even though I have CommentLuv running on two other blogs as well. :/
Note that the plugin “fix” doesn’t change the “Users must be registered and logged in to comment,” you have to manually fix that as well.

In reply to: Comments Closed on All Posts Over 6 Days Old on TWO blogsOK. It just happened to me again. But on a DIFFERENT blog. And this time, I just about “saw” it happen.
I was on the blog (not in the admin area), replying to a comment. I submitted the comment. It kind of cranked for a few minutes, then finally posted the comment, but when the page refreshed ALL the blog comments were closed. Ack!
Here’s the blog:
Fortunately rjayton had posted (in a similar thead) about the Extended Comment Options plugin (thank you thank you), so I installed that and opened all comments. Then I went to the SAME post, replied again to another comment, submitted. NO PROBLEMS.
WORDPRESS, THERE IS A PROBLEM!

In reply to: Why is my comments closed in all posts – open in all pages…!??I have never used I-Power —?don’t even know what it is. And for the past many months I’ve upgraded within the control panel.
Hope that info helps in weeding through the issues.
Maybe the new version???

In reply to: Comments Closed on All Posts Over 6 Days Old on TWO blogstico, I’m not sure what you mean by “a scheduled process or a cron somewhere.” My issue was similar to what many others experienced.
I don’t have the issue now, but am hoping to help bring this to the forefront for those still experiencing it.

In reply to: Comments Closed on All Posts Over 6 Days Old on TWO blogstico, I’m not sure I’m following you on the last two comments.
To be clear, this never happened when I upgraded. It happened — sometimes daily — even on a blog that hadn’t even had the dashboard opened. Comments open at night. Go to bed. Get up. All comments closed.
